Cold hands

Hi everyone... I had my surgery in February last year and I've lost 105 Lbs. I'm so proud of myself. But this is the first winter i'm going to have since my surgery and now my hands are getting cold very often. We even went skiing the other day and I had to change gloves with my husband because my hands were freezing. But as soon as he wore my gloves he said that they were really warm and he didn't understood why my hands were so red and cold. When they get cold it takes me a while to get them warm. Even inside my house, with the furnace on, they get cold. Is this a common problem for gastric bypass patients in cold states. I just moved to the area and I need to now if this is common or not. Thanks a lot..

I'm afraid that just plain old being cold is a problem for us. Remember you have lost lots of insolation! I freeze all the time at work. I wear a jacket constantly & even long underwear! One day I even had to put on gloves & I work with computers. That was difficult but they sure felt better. So are your hands the only part that is cold? If so maybe you have a neuropathy problem. From what my hubby and I have experienced, if its only your hands that get cold, you are very lucky! He and I are always, always cold. We keep turning the heat up in the house and have bought stock in the space heater company. I wear nylons under my long underwear and slacks at work to stay warm. Then I wear a tshirt under my long underwear and sweater on top. I still have to wear a jacket over that sometimes. I've never cursed winter in Iowa so much as I have since the wls. lol You are definitely in good company. And also, congratulations on your weight loss!

I think Dixie's right- it's definatly an insulation problem. My hands are frequently cold, but after the TT and removal of 16 pounds, it's an even bigger problem. Hopefully, our bodies will adjust to this weight loss, and throw out a little more heat! Really a small price to pay, though. Jeri H.

I have cold everything. I wear long johns, sock liners, socks, jeans, turtleneck, sweater and that's just to go to my office! And part of that time, I'm still cold! I've always loved Iowa but am thinking warmer climes might be the ticket when we retire, that is, if I'm not frozen stiff by then!

Malena, I have to ditto what everyone else has said - I get cold way too easily now. Not just the hands, but all over. My hands get cold during church a lot - and that's not a good thing because I play the piano for church. I sit there and blow warm air on them all the time. I'd say that we need to cover ourselves with extra layers of clothes since our layers of fat are gone! God bless and Happy New Year, Andrea
