I found out Monday that I was approved by my insurance and on Tuesday I had a surgery date. January 13th is the day that will change the rest of my life. I'm so excited. Not much support at home or at work but this is something I'm doing for me and not them. Any words of wisdom from anyone?

Congrats!! I see you have the same Dr as Carolyn. She speaks highly of him!!. When you say you don't have much support do you mean no one knows, or no one is in favor of your surgery? You are at the right place here for support. Nothing but kind words and helpful hints from these people. My surgery date is Jan 10th. We can commiserate together!! best of luck Sheila

Congrats Judy Great Christmas present for you I take it you aren't getting support from home? Could be they are scared for you. My son's significant other was really negative towards WLS & I looked her right in the eye & said didn't see you trying to talk me out of having my hyster. Shut her up right then. Maybe try taking them in with you when you see Dr. S or I went to the photo page & shared that (before & after pics), I also shared research with the family. Hope that helps! Merry Christmas Carolyn

Judy; Congrats on your upcoming surgery!!! Don't worry about the people at work, you need to do what's best for you!! If they're truly friends, they'll come around, and be supportive. It's hard when family isn't supportive. It could be that they're just scared for you, at this point. Provide them with info concerning what's involved in the surgery, and how it will improve your health. My parents were not very supportive at first, but when they saw me losing weight, and not having any problems post op, I think they're at least "ok" with it. When it comes down to it, it is YOUR health, and up to you to decide what's best for you!! Hopefully when you get through surgery and are recovering nicely, and the weight starts comming off, your family will see what a positive thing it is, and be more supportive!! You will be glad you did it!! I'm almost 9 monthes post op, and down 115 lbs and feeling great!!! Best of luck to you, and keep us posted!! DeeAnn R
