10/4/04 Roll Call and Goals (Who's here this week?)
Lyn,
I'm confused - one of your goals is to stop snacking, but you say that you only eat because you have to. Is it that you have to force yourself to sit down and eat a meal? Now now, you know that getting meals in is important. You can do it - I'm sure of it. You've been gone on vacation, right? Now you're home and things will get better. Hang in there - I have faith in you!!!
God bless,
Andrea
P.S. Sorry I didn't respond sooner - everyone in my house has been sick.
Monday again so soon....
Had a usual week, nothing much to report. Spent another sun-filled Sunday at my folks'. This time raking pine needles and picking up pine cones. Something we've done for yeeeeeeeears. Being out like that keeps my head level.
Did go to my 1st support group meeting tonight. It was interesting.
One goal would be sleeping well in the sleep lab Tuesday night.
And that is harder than it sounds because I work the midnight to 8 am shift Monday night/Tuesday morn. So I'll need to nap a little bit Tuesday, but have to be careful to not get to much sleep.........ahhhh the dilemas we face......and mine are sooooooo minor compared to some peoples.
Andrea, get over that sinus junk!
I like hot 'lemonade' when I have a head or chest cold.
Happy, positive, and blessed thoughts to all,
Sheila
Sheila,
Sorry that I did not respond sooner. The sinus stuff got worse and went into my chest then I got the stomach flu that my kids have had. Hubby got it all, too. AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHh
Ohhhhhhhhh, those Sunday afternoons. I am just relishing in the thoughts of those again!!
How did the sleep study go? Let us know.
God bless,
Andrea
I'm almost afraid by saying this I will jinx myself but the scales have started moving again. Yeah! I lost 3.5 lbs in the last 2 days. Quite a change over the last month when it stayed the same. Stll 3 pounds until I hit 200.
I think I did a pretty good job of meeting my goals so will continue with them, most importantly, KEEP AWAY FROM SNACKING! (Yes, I meant to shout.) In addition, I am going to change the way I work out. Last night at support group, I discovered that the trainer I use has been having me do things wrong. Her instructions were that when I work with weights & it starts getting easy, I should increase the amount of weight I am working with. Now I find out, this will just bulk me up instead of adding defination. We women don't need rippling muscles. So another patient & I are going to have Timi come up to Waverly where we work out & have her show us what we should be doing. Until then, I am going to increase my repetitions instead of increasing the weight. Actually it was kind of fun adding weight. It made me feel so strong. Hmmm.... while doing chores, I carry 2 40Lb pails at a time. Since I REALLY HATE (yes, shouting again) feeding calves, do you think I could convince Al that it's bad for me? Fat chance of that!
Andrea, I hope you are feeling better by now. Sinus infections are nasty and I don't wish them on anyone. Drink your OJ (watered down if necessary) and take few extra Vit C. Sure can't hurt. Whooping cough is going around this area. Glad I don't have kids in school.

I forgot, my favorite right now is Prosuitto, a type of ham. It's really pricey ($9.98 a lb is the least I have seen it) but I can only eat about 2-3 OZ at a time so it lasts for 5-6 meals. I just make sure I hide it from the rest of my family. They would eat it in one sandwich.
Also lately I have been making a kind of antipasto salad to take to work. I take whatever veggies I have, slightly cooked are OK as well as raw, throw in some olives, cubes of cheese, & ham, prosuitto, or pepperoni, whatever I have on hand, and sprinkle with olive oil & plenty of red wine vinegar, plus a little salt & pepper and chopped garlic. For a real treat I add artichokes. I'm getting hungry just thinking of it. I think I know what I'm taking to work tonight You can't imagine how good it smells & tastes. MMMMMM.....
Dixie
Dixie,
Well, I didn't get better, got worse with the infection and then got the flu, too. YUK!!! It sounds like things are going well for you. By this coming Monday, I'm sure that you will be under 200 pounds! Keep up the good work. I'm going to have to ask my trainer now about upping the reps or weight. I don't know the answer to that one. I, too, increase the weight after increasing the reps. HMmmmmmmmmmm..................
Wow - sounds like you have some fancy favorite for food! I'm going to have to try the prosuitto. It sounds good.
Keep up the good work - waiting anxiously to hear your news of being under 200!!
God bless,
Andrea
Hiya GF! I sure hope you are feeling better!!! Keep us updated ok! I haven't been doing very good with goals....have been soooooooooo darn busy, sometimes I don't know whether Iam coming or going!!! I know the snacking is killing me and eating on the run, I really feel like Iam falling back into the bad way of eating....Oh hard habits are hard to break!!! So with that being said.....
--get back on track with eating
--exercise, exercise, exercise
I am still doing good with the water, drink about 120 ozs. a day!!!
Right now I don't have a FAVE food per say, seems like I eat the same ole stuff until I get sick of it LOL!
Hope everyone has a GREAT week!!!
Janet Schmidt
Janet,
You sound busy - I'm sure that those kids keep you hopping! Try to remember that you had this surgery for YOU and that you are the one responsible for YOU and how you eat. 'nuff said? Take care of yourself and in your busy times, try to grab healthy things like cheese sticks or a protein drink or protein bar to eat. You can do it, I'm sure.
Great job on the water - been one area of weakness for me lately. I'll have to follow in your footsteps on that one.
Well, talk to ya soon,
God bless,
Andrea
Hello
Good news! I'm done having to change my dressing from my hysterectomy. It's been a long haul.
Went to the family doctor, last Friday, OCtober 1, and found out I have no HEALTH insurance. So I had to cancel my appointment for my surgeon to look at my incision. I'm on Medicaid, they tell me I'm making too much money and that I no longer have a learning disability. So, my parents are paying my bills, I don't want them to. But my parents have told me, that I cannot get a job until school is finished. Not even a part time job. So I'm depressed. I have also changed my meds, (Thank goodness the doctor had samples) I was on Zoloft and now I'm on Lexapro (Spelling). All I want to do lately is cry.
Well, enough of my story. I have met a lot of my goals. This week is to do more walking, drink more water, eat breakfast, and get more protein in. Tonight, my friends are taking me out to Heartland, it's a restaurant here in Marshalltown, that has a buffet and steak, and tonight is all you can eat steak, but I'm only eating one steak.
I love my steak, (the wound care gal, told me if I could get a steak in a day that would be great). So I try to eat steak at least once a week.
Oops, I need to get my vitamins in too. I've been forgetting those. Better get off and go take them.
Take Care everybody
Love
Lisa Young
Down to 230 the surgeon says get down to 170 so that's about 60 pounds. Hasn't been a year yet.
Lisa,
So glad to hear that you are finally doing better with the surgery sight. It certainly has taken you a long time to heal. Wow, that must be frustrating to hear that you don't have insurance coverage now. I would look into that a little more and see if you qualify for any other types of insurance. It's a good thing that you are seeing a doc and have changed meds. Hopefully, things will start looking up for you soon.
Steak - I'm still scared of it. I only eat a couple of bites now and then. Do you eat a whole steak? I can just feel it sitting heavy in my tummy. OUCH. Glad that you enjoy it! Hope your evening out was fun.
God bless,
Andrea
