I have a hard time coming here for help, cuz I am very private about this. I haven't told any one about my surgery except for my family. But I am about to go out of my mind and don't know where to turn. I had my surgery on Aug 17 and lost 22lbs in the first 3 weeks. Since then my scale has not moved. What the hell is going on? Shouldn't I be losing weight like mad right now? I am only a month and a half out and it is really starting to scare me. What if......................I keep thinking what if this surgery isn't going to work for me. What if they didn't make my limb long enough. What if I am eating too much. What if I am going back to my old ways and I am going to out-eat this surgery. What if I put myself through all of this for NOTHING. What if?!?!?!?!?!??! Shouldn't I be losing a lot of weight at this time? I know I should drink more water than I do. About 45-55oz a day, but that is pretty close. I was eating about 1/4 to 1/3 cup of food depending on what consistancy it is. But now it seems like I don't eat meals any more, they aren't worth the time. So I just nibble little bits during the day. I can't seem to find any protein drinks that are good. So what the heck do I do now. I have a very good friend who had the surgery almost a year ago and I see how well she is doing, and wonder what am I doing wrong? Have I done the wrong thing? Will I ever start to lose weight? What am I going to do? If I don't start losing soon, well I am already getting discouraged. You know when you see results it is better. Well its not better. Anybody have any suggestions?

Jodi, It's very common to hit a plateau at your stage & I know it's really frustrating. However, the only way to break it is to increase your protein and water. Your body is fighting to protect you because it senses that you are starving yourself. And not only does the water hydrate you but it also helps wash the fat away. You said eating meals is not worth it but that is exactly what you need to do and nibbling all day is NOT a good thing. Right now, you probably are not getting alot of calories from it but if you continue to nibble between meals, you will have problems. Try to get in at least 64 ounces of fluid a day and 60 grams of protein. You don't need to use protein drinks to get it in if you can't find one you like. Many of us don't use protein drinks. I don't know what kind of diet your doctor has you on but milk, cheese, yogurt, peanut butter (in moderation), cottage cheese, eggs, and of course fish, poultry, & meat are all good sources of protein. Perhaps, you should call your friend & ask her what she does. It's always easier if you can share with someone who has gone through what you are going through now. Oh, how much exercise are you getting? That may be a way to jump start your loss. Good luck & don't get discouraged. Dixie

Frustrating is not the word. I used to drink water like mad, and now for some reason I have to remind myself to do it. And when you have sooooo much to drink that is a lot of reminding!!! Thanks for every ones help. I 'm pretty bad about responding and some times my computer just doesn't cooperate with me and I just can't. So thanks again. Jodi

Hi Jody, First of all congrats on your weight loss Plat's are sooooo frustrating, have had several of them so can relate (I'm 5 mo out). Remember your body is trying to catch up so this is going to happen. My good friend & mentor keeps telling me this! It will come! Have you taken your measurements? You are possibly losing inches. If you can up your protein & water it will help. How many meals do you eat per day? Try eating something 5 or 6 times per day this may help. That's what would break mine & get me going again. Lots of luck & welcome to the losing side Carolyn

What size of meals do you eat 5-6 times a day? I know that if we're supposed to have 50-60 grams of protein a day and we're only eating 1/4-1/3 cup of food a day, that is nearly immpossible to get. I guess I have never been good at eating, that is why I'm where I am today!!!

Hi Jodi, Try eating some cheese, cottage cheese or yogurt between meals. I'm very impatient about my weight loss... ask Janet I eat small portions, I don't measure anything maybe I should. What I don't eat I can eat the next time around! Keep us posted on how you are doing. You will find great support here & answers to your questions. Carolyn

I know I am terrible about measuring. I usually quite when I feel full, but I have a hard time eating a 1/4 of a cup of food in a half hour too!! Isn't it impossible to do? I should start measuring again too. Thanks for every thing!! Jodi

You are doing fine.....Take a deep breath and relax......This is just about the right time for your body to take a break.....It was still kinda in shock from the MAJOR surgery......you lost that first 22 pounds quick and now your body is doing the natural thing by stopping and saying wait a minute.....it wants to make sure your aren't starving.....Get in your three meals a day and all your water and the weight will start coming off again and very soon.....as soon as your body is ready!!! What kind of protein drinks have you tried?? I could reccomend some, I could even send you some samples of mine if you'd like!!! Just don't be so hard on yourself, maybe stay off of the scale for a few days and really concentrate on the water and protein......eat some string cheese, they go down pretty easy...Take care and come back with any questions you have or any support you may need!! We are here for ya!! Jesi
