Andreas question about handling stress got me to thinking and now I have a question: For those of you that see a counselor, therapist etc, how do you do it? I am not one that can just 'spill my guts' to people. My psych eval was one of the most stressful things I have ever done. (I am a 911 dispatcher....I know stress!!) I know I should talk to someone about some issues (most of which lead to food), I just don't have the 'nerve'. Maybe it is fear of admitting I have a problem? (or 2 or 3 ) Maybe another goal for the week would be to call my PCP and ask for a recommendation for someone to talk to......... Thanks and hugs to all Sheila

Hi Sheila, Since you went to Dr G, I think I know who you had to go for your psyc eval. From what I hear, I can understand why it was stressful. No one likes that man! I was sent to a psychologist, a woman at that, and found myself just telling her everything. She told me that she felt that I may have the problem many of us are touching on, that of finding something to replace food. I haven't felt it necessary to return to her but if I did think I had a problem I would definately call her. Her name is Naomi McCormick and she is in Waterloo, not too far from Crossroads Mall. Oh, she is very experienced working with WLS patients. She used to do this same thing at Mayo. Dixie

Sheila, I "hooked up" with the psych that works with the center through which I had surgery. Dr. Brundage here in Davenport is her name. She did my psych eval and then I had several follow up appointments with her. What's funny is that at my 6 week check-up, I told her that I didn't think I needed to see anyone again. Well, I changed my mind at about 6 months out and see her every other week. I don't know if it is really helping or not, but I am certainly giving it a shot!!! Hope this helps and God bless, Andrea P.S. Your pcp should be able to make a recommendations.
