PASSING FOR THIN

Greetings all Has anyone read 'Passing for Thin' by Frances Kuffel? It is the memoirs of a 'fat woman'. She goes from 300 plus to 150-ish pounds. (by weighing and measuring food, not by surgery). She writes of the struggles, mental, physical, emotional, etc of the obese person, and of the now-thin obese person. I found myself laughing, weeping and nodding in complete familiarity. I don't know how many times I said "I could have written this book". The last half of the book or so is her struggle being a 'thin' person with an 'obese mind'. I couldn't relate to this as I am preop and still MO. HOWEVER, I have thought that far ahead and had some of those 'what if' wonders. (My supportive sister has already told me I will have to change my way of thinking after I declined to do something NEXT fall that an obese woman could/would never do) My Mom, who supports my surgery decision, bought the book for me. (at Barnes and Noble) She had heard about it some how. I know she is concerned about the psychological changes that are bound to occur with the losing of the weight. I had thought about posting this earlier and forgot but after reading the post by Kristi H about 'when do you see the loss of the weight', I thought I should. It is a fairly quick read and I highly recommend it. I am going to read it a second time. Hugs and blessings Sheila

Hi! I took it to the hospital to read and didn't but read it at home. It helped a lot. I highlighted several of the lines in the book because the book is so me. There is another one called the Weight of it I believe. It is from the prespective of the sister of the obese person. I had my best friend and some of my family read that one. It also made me see how some of my family felt. If you pull up Passing for Thin on Amazon then they usually pull up the other book. I gave it away or I would know what the name and author was. I got it at borders. I would love to find other books like these to read. Good luck in changing it is really hard to crack this obese surface and let the butterfly immerge. Hugs Melinda

Sheila, Thanks for the idea. I don't read much for pleasure, because when I stop moving, I usually drop! But.....it sounds like this one is going to be a good read. I will definitely be looking for it soon. Thanks and God bless, Andrea
