Ok, I haven't been here for quite awhile but I do continue to read. I had surgery May 3rd, 04 and I am just not happy and I don't know why or how to shake this feeling. I have lost 48 lbs. since surgery but I just don't feel like I have lost crap. I really thought I would be off some if not all my meds and I just got put back on every single one of them. My back hurts so bad all the time I just want to cry and exercising is so hard to do because of it. I know I'm not even close to getting the protein in but I am never hungry, I honestly believe I eat only because I know I have to. My surgeon is not happy at all with my weight loss, dah, no **** sherlock, I'm not either. Seems like everything I eat causes so much nausia that I just give up, but I'm still not loosing either, what in the heck am I doing wrong here? People ask me if I'm glad I had this surgery, I say sure I am but the truth is I"m not and I know I should be because without this surgery I could never have lost the weight I have lost. I just don't feel like I have lost anything. Cheri McDivitt, bless her heart, she is my support and she looks awesome. I read here how much everone has lost and the anger sets in, I don't know why but it does. Please don't tell me to get therapy, I have done that in the past and I think they are a waste of my time, they helped nothing. I just wanted to vent for a bit, I'm sorry. Thanks all for listening to my poor pity me party. ~~~~Tina

Tina This is where you hold the pitty parties. We all understand the moods, frustrations, and dissappointments of this game. What did your doctor say other than he/she is not happy with your weight loss? Has he tried to figure out why you stay so pukey? Did he give you any hints why your back on your meds? He is the one that needs to come up with some answers. Have you thought about seeing the nutritionist? Mine in my docs office is a saving angel and has helped me so much. Do you have a nutritionist that can help? As I think about it I would call that doc back and tell him that you paid a butt load of money and it just wasn't for his surgery skills!!!! Has he offered to run any test to make sure your insides are working the way they need to be? Get on him/her you deserve it. Any time you need a pitty party call me and I will wear my party hat and blow on my little party horn. Hugs Melinda

Thanks Melinda, you managed to raise my spirits a bit, that sure did help alot, yes I did talk to the nutritionist who gave me ideas, which I have been doing. I don't know how the hell I ever got so fat in the first place, because I don't like most foods to begin with. I go back to the surgeon in Nov. for the blood work part and I know that is going to be a huge disappointment. I did my 3 month blood work with my pcp and she is the one who put me back on all the meds. My thyroid will always be a problem and I knew that but my cholerterol is higher now than before surgery and she gave me meds for my back and told me that to will always be a problem, blood pressure is still real high, and diabetes is starting to even out i guess, well hell, if I have to live with all this pain, what the heck did I have this surgery for. Maybe I just expected to much. Thank you for your reply, it is so appreciated.~~~Tina

Tina, I'm so sorry to hear you're still having trouble and that the weight isn't coming off as you wish. I can't give you an tips there but do know that some people are just slow losers. Of course hearing that isn't much comfort when it's you who is losing slowly. Getting in the protein will help though so make yourself get in at least 60 grams. If not, your body will think it's starving & will not let you lose. And don't forget that you need to drink lots of water. It's when I slip up & don't drink & get enough protein that my loss slows or even stops. I was really hoping the weightloss would help with your back problems and your other medical problems. Hopefully they will improve as you continue to lose weight. I have hit a plateau and can understand some of your frustrations. Hang in there. It will get better. Dixie

Hi Tina, First of all I want to say the weight you have lost so far is more than what you probably would have lost without the surgery, so CONGRATS for losing what you have. Some of us are slow losers plain & simple. As far as comparing weight loss to others, hon you can't. My mentor Janet drilled that thru my head & it has finally sunk in! I'm pretty thick headed... Be proud of what you have accomplished so far. As far as your doc is concerned, well, he needs a reality check!!! You didn't gain this weight overnight & you aren't going to lose it overnight!!! Go to the BMI calculator & see how you are doing, that is what I have done, it will show you where you should be at for weight loss. As far as protein intake I didn't think I was getting enough either, but go to Fitday.com & enter your info on there. I was really surprised at how much protein I was getting & am no longer worried if I'm getting enough. I think you are doing great! It is easy to get frustrated & depressed after reading someone has dropped 100 lbs in a month's time. The strange thing about this surgery is the heavier you are the faster it comes off. How often do you eat a day? Try 6 meals a day, for your in betweens have some cheese, cottage cheese, yogurt something along that line. Good protein & easy to get down. About the meds, it will come in time. Hey of all things my good cholestrol went bad! I know it's serious but had to laugh about the test results on that one! You have to eat to lose weight, totally different from our mind sets before surgery. I think that has been the hardest mind set of all for me is that I HAVE to eat! I mean after all we are trying to lose weight, just the opposite from before surgery. For the nausea try some de-caf peppermint tea to help settle the tummy. Love that stuff. You can doctor up your water with crystal lite, sugar free koolaid that counts towards your liquids. Something else that counts towards liquid are sugar free popsicles. I put my bottle of water in the freezer & let it get good & cold, seems to go down easier. Hope this helps just a little Tina. I would also go back to PC & ask for something for nausea if it continues. Or the surgeon. Have my days yet where food doesn't look good to me either! So that's when I grab a yogurt (Blue Bunny Lite or Carb Freedom yummy) & eat that. Meat goes down ok for me but I don't eat alot of it. Except taco meat & that goes down real good. Each of us are different, some things are going to agree with our bodies other things aren't. The same way with the weight, some are going to lose fast other's not. Your surgeon should be praising you for what you have lost so far not be negative. You've come along way in a short time. Keep us posted! ((((((((((((Hugs))))))))))) Carolyn

Tina, Oh, hon, you sound so frustrated. I don't know the pain that you have dealt with or the health issues you may have. I can try to give a few more hints to try to kick-start our systems to begin to lose again. #1 - stay away from the scale, except for once a week or less. (I only weigh monthly.) Like Carolyn said, you can try to increase fluids, log your food intake and up the exercise. If you still are not seeing the weight come off, you may have to try eating a few more calories. Talk with the dietician or surgeon for some guidance and more ideas and always know that we are here to join you at your party! God bless, Andrea
