Bariatric Surgeons in the Cedar Rapids area....

I have a question. I had a gastric bypass a year and a half ago in Cedar Rapids, Iowa with Dr. Keating. I did a search on the doctors in the area on this site, and no doctors are listed anymore! Does anyone know what's going on? Is Dr. Keating no longer doing gastric bypass surgery?

Hi Kim! Dr. Keating is still alive and well...I'm going to one of his info sessions on Friday! I don't know why, but when you try to do a search for surgeons anywhere in Iowa, it comes up that none are available. I think I ended up stumbling onto the Iowa messageboard and THEN found surgeons by reading people's profiles. Strange....I wonder if there's a good reason for that or if we should tell the webmaster? -Chris C.

Thanks for the response Chris. It's just odd because Keating and a couple other doctors used to come up when you searched for surgeons. So I was wondering what the heck is going on! LOL. Glad to know he's still doing the surgery, because if he stopped, I would REALLY wonder why. That would scare me a bit. Besides, should anything ever happen to me, I'd need him!! LOL. Thanks again for the info and good luck to you! Dr. Keating is a great doctor!!

Interesting....Well, I thought it was strange that NO ONE came up in the whole state...especially with U of Iowa Hospital and so many other great programs. I'll see if I can figure out who to email. Maybe it's some kind of broken link or something. Sounds like you're doing great! I was reading your profile...have you been able to go back to eating meats pretty well now? I know a guy who is two years out and still pretty much lives on protein shakes and vitamins, and he's actually fine with that! (WEIRD!!!) ha ha....I guess that's one thing that I worry about. If I have this surgery, will I really feel "normal" again one day once things heal? Not that I want to be eating french fries by any means, but it's good to hear that other people eat the same foods they make for their families.

Let me know if you find anything out about the no surgeon deal in Iowa. That's very odd. Yes, I'm glad to be back to normal too. LOL. It's been a challenging, and tough process but I'm so thankful I was given the opportunity to have my life back. It wasn't easy though, but it sure paid off.

It's at Mercy Hospital....I guess it's the first step in checking out their WLS program there. Jane gave me the number, and they said I'd have to go to this before meeting with Dr. Keating. I'm also going to one in Davenport next Monday so I can compare the two programs. Sounds like Davenport is WAY more structured than Dr. Keating, so it will be interesting to compare them. Sometimes I like structure and lots of support, and other times I like to be left alone a little bit more, so we'll see! -Chris

Kim, Long time no see, where have you been all summer, missed seeing you at the support group meetings. My husband ran into Jane and she said that the gal running the meetings (sorry I am terrible with names)said she left to work in another area of hospital so don't know if there is a meeting anymore or not, but just saw your post and thought I would say hello and hope to see at meeting this THurs, that if there is one. Take care!!

Hi Leslea! I did kind of stop going to the meetings. LOL. Have you heard anything about Sheri? Is she still going to hold the meetings? Is there a meeting tomorrow night?
