Hi all! I am finally home safe and sound. I was released from the hospital on Thursday, and stayed with my grandma til today. I am so glad its all over! I'm doing pretty good, still rather sore, but I feel bloated from all the IV fluids they gave me. Is this normal? I'm walking a little bit at a time, as much as I can handle. How long does it take to have a BM? I feel like if I have one, I'll feel much better. Thanks to everyone, especially Ken and Andrea, for their support through my ordeal. I really appreciate it! Hugs, Shelley Rath

Yes, it's normal to be bloated from the surgery and the IVs. As to the BM, I had one in the hospital on day 3. It was nasty because of the gastrographin I had to drink for the leak test. I was pretty loose for a couple weeks until I got off the clear liquids. Then I plugged up tight. I now use a prescription laxative called Miralax. None stimulant. It pulls moisture into the colon. Works really well. Walking will also help move things around a little. You might want to check with your surgeon on Tues if you still haven't gone to see what you can use. Glycerin suppositories are usually safe as is MOM. Glad you're home and doing well. Welcome to the losing side!

WELCOME HOME!!! Glad that you are getting around. It is normal to feel a little bloated from IV's. Like Lyn, my BM's were very loose and runny after surgery (sorry so gross..............my toddler would say EWWWWWWWWWWWW). I don't remember how long it was until I had one, but be sure to keep in contact with Theresa and the doc if you feel like you need to and nothing is moving. Remember, you have had your insides rerouted. Give them time to adjust. Also, you are not eating/drinking much right now. Things should happen soon. Keep up the good work and walking when you feel you can. Try to get up and around the house a couple times a day and walk around that way if you can't get outside. Do you still have support now that you are home? Let me know if you need anything and don't hesitate to call the center if you have questions about your health! God bless and welcome to a thrilling journey, Andrea
