Question for Post Ops :-)

Just curious...especially for those of you who are several months post op or at goal.... Aside from sugar and high fats, do you find that you are able to eat the same things you cook for your family, but of course in smaller portions? I know that you want to focus on getting your protein first, but once your stomach adjusts to its new size and rerouting, can you eat pretty normal stuff? How many calories would you guess you're eating in a day? Also, are any of you still using protein shakes every day? Thanks a bunch guys! Hope you're all doing well! Chris

I'm 4 mo out. I usually eat whatever I have fixed for the family -- but always my protein first. I'm not sure about my calories -- the dr. said about 1000. I don't use any protein supplements anymore, my dr. doesn't want you to do them past a couple months out. I get all my protein from food. I occasionally have some pasta, potatoes and bread (never more than 1 slice). I don't do this more than 2-3 times a week tho. I will have 3 of 4 Ritz crackers with cheese for lunch sometimes. Hope this helps. Janie 272/191/140?

Chris, I am 4 and half months out and I eat basically the same meat as my hubby does but not all the other things that he does....I am down 106 pounds and I still do lots of protein but not liking the shakes much so I do carb count down milk for breakfast and I usually do peanuts for snacks....the Nectars arent too bad if you need a drink type protein. I just upped my calories to about a 1000 per day from about 800. I wasnt losing much at 800 so I went up like my DR suggested and I started losing again. God bless you on your journey! Jody W.

hiya Chris...Yes I eat whatever I fix for my family just smaller portions and always protien first!!! I have never drank the protein drinks, I have always gotten my protein from the food I eat, just couldn't gag the drinks down, also my surgeon doesn't suggest we drink protein! I consider myself very normal just eat smaller portions, and drink lots and lots of water! As for the calories I try to stick to 1,000 a day. Good luck on your journey, we are here for ya! Any more questions just ask away!!! Janet Schmidt

Chris, Hi - I am a little over 8 months out and eat what the family eats, usually. I don't cook a lot with potatoes, pastas or rice anymore. If I do, I only eat a few bites of it. If I make something like spaghetti for dinner, then I will eat something else. I would guess that I eat about 1000 calories a day and I DO try to get a protein drink in at least every other day. Remember, we're here for ya, so keep posting when you need support or have questions. God bless, Andrea
