Help please. I am starting my masters degree at Drake in less than a month and will be spending every other weekend in Des Moines, and need a cheap hotel to stay at. Do any of you wonderful people have any suggestions. I am not very familiar with DSM so ease to and from Drake would be a good plus as well. Thanks for the help. I also had my official one year check-up today with good results. I have lost 185 pounds(which I knew), 16 pant sizes to a 38, down to XL from 4XL. All of my labs are great, with the only thing not within range is my B12 number, so I will be taking that twice a day instead of once. Other than that all is well. We, my doctor and I, are happy with where I am at, so I am going to say that I have reached my goal weight - which is now at 235 from 420. Things are going well, now we engage in the heavy duty maintenance program - which won't be a lick different than what I am currently doing. For those that keep asking for a picture, as soon as I get my school pictures back, I will add them to my profile - SO LEAVE ME ALONE WOULD YA Later, Brad

Brad, Well, there are tons of hotels and motels in Des Moines. I checked the phone book and there is a Days Inn on Merle Hay Road - about 3 miles or so from Drake and also there's a Holiday Inn Express that's on 24th Street - right next to campus. Either might work for your first couple of weekends till you see if you can find a cheaper place. My suggestion to you is to call your phone company or check the internet and order a Des Moines phone book. We moved a lot when my husband was in the Army and I would call and get a phone book sent to me prior to actually moving so I could see what was there for businesses and restaurants and such. Also they usually have good city maps in them. It was nice to be able to have it in the car when we reached our destination. It's a real easy reference too, when you want to take a break and maybe get a drink or a bite to eat, just throw it in the car and go. Let me know if there's any other questions I can answer. I live here in Des Moines, so I should be able to help out. Just don't know about hotel prices.......don't have a need!! Take care now! -Deb W.

I am not sure about cheap, but we spend a couple of weekends a year in DM (I live about 30 miles west of DM) my family all gets together there. We stay at the Chase Suites, they have a full kitchen and that helps us all svae $$$ on food it is less expensive to run up University and go to Hy-vee and get groceries than it is to eat out. They are nice too. Anyway I don't know if that helps at all. I know my parents belong to AAA and they get discounts on room plus you could try the online services like priceline ect....hey maybe a bunch of us could get together when you aren't cramming...my classes don't start until Sept. 1st thank god! Actually yes I would know a very nice cheap hotel. Its the Baviarian Inn on NE 14th Street. Its very clean (I worked there doing housekeeping about a month ago). Its priced good at around 32 or 39 dollars a night. Plus its got a pool, room service, did i mention its very clean? 515 265 5611 is the phone number. Any time I've stayed there I've had a very positive expierence. Hope this helps
