Hi! I am craving fresh fruit. The only fruit I have had post op are banannas. Does anyone eat fresh fruit? I was thinking about having an apple today but making sure I peel it (although that is where the vita are located) any help would be appreciated. Thanks Melinda

Melinda, At 6 weeks out, apples were not on my diet yet. Please be sure to follow the surgeon's/dietician's recommendations. I don't know anything about ds surgery, but know that we are rerouted enough to be careful. Can you maybe try some unsweetened applesauce to help with the cravings until you get some answers from your doctor? Now, at 8 months out, I can eat fresh melon, blueberries, raspberries, etc. Have had a bite or two of fresh apples, but the summer fruits have been too good so far. I also like some canned tropical fruit. I get it at the local Aldi's, but Hy-Vee carries a name brand as well, (Dole, I believe). I rinse the canned fruit thoroughly before eating it and then only eat 4-5 bites with breakfast. Hope this helps. God bless, Andrea

Andrea, Why do you wash the canned fruit? Do you do this also when you buy fruit in its own juice? Thanks for the ideas... (I am really missing popcorn right now) Later Girlie Melinda

Melinda, I rinse the fruit to make sure that there are no sugars left on it from the heavy syrup. Even if it says in it's own juice, like the pineapple, I still rinse it. I'm just a worry wart about dumping because I dump even on sugar free stuff sometimes. Hope this helps, God bless, Andrea

Hey Mel I peel the skin off... and just like Andrea says... rinse. I also have to watch it, cuz even the natural sugar can totally do me in, if I eat too fast. I don't know about you with the different procedure maybe all will be well.... I haven't had OJ in a year and half. Fresh oranges don't go to well either to pulpy; I can eat pears, pineapple, grapes, a few strawberries, and cantalope, honeydew (any melon)... like there's no tomorrow. Just try a little sweetie, experiment... and GOOD LUCK. God Bless Mel... Paula

I eat an apple every day -- started a couple of months post-op. I used to peel them, but do eat the skins now (I'm 4 mo out). Make sure to chew really well. Granny Smith have tough tough skins so be very careful with them. Otherwise I eat Braeburns. Never had a problem with them. Thanks. Janie

My big apple tree has apples falling right now & I can't resist them. I am 8 months out and have no problems. However, you may be wanting them too soon. Go by your doctor's recommendations. Apple sauce is good though & the unsweetened is just as good as the regular. I'm fortunate in that I can eat any fruit & the natural sugars are not a problem. When you do start eating apples, don't make the mistake I did. The apples I buy at the grocery has a small sticker to identify the variety. I didn't notice it when I cut it up and ate it! Oh, I hurt so bad for about an hour & finally threw it up. The sticker came out whole! I thought I had gotten the skin stuck but it was the sticker! How dumb was that? Now I make sure I take the sticker off & really chew the apple good. Dixie

Hi Melinda: I ea****ermelon every day. At least a little, I also eat grapes (but I peel them. The skins bother me a little. Bannana's seem to be good and although it's not a fruit I eat baby peeled raw carrots. They are really sweet too. I crave fruit all the time, so I know what you mean be careful. I had a tangerine this week and got really sick from it. Good luck, Eileen
