could it really be true?

Hello All I dont really post a lot, but I read a ton! My husband was telling me the other day that Gastric Bypass is going to be covered by the government now (no matter what is what i thought i heard him say). Any way he said that this means that if the government considers obesity a disease openly then it will force insurance companies to do the same, thus making them treat the disease! I havent had my surgery yet, and really for awhile have lost all hope of having it done. But now, just maybe there is hope for me

well they did say obesity is a disease. The rest is going to hashed out by laws and committees (nothing ever comes fast)... No automatic coverage yet. I would say though that WLS exlusions by insurance companies are probably not going withstand court cases with this new decision. I know my insurance has an exclusion, so do many others. I think the first patients to see real changes with be Medicaid-Medicare....the government directly pays for those benefits. Now for the negative part there is a back lash being created by the "watch-dog" groups who claim the "obesity industry" is behind creating these laws to help out their business. Be prepared for lots of negative press in the future. Paula
