LASIK Eye Surgery

Has anyone out there had LASIK Eye Surgery? What should I expect, and what types of questions should I be asking? I am going for a consult to see if I am a candidate. I figured since I fixed part of my body with WLS, I may as well see if I can fix another part. One piece at a time, I may get it all fixed - well, maybe not, I don't know if I have that much time or money. Thanks for the help Brad

Hi Brad, I had this done in 2001. Best thing that ever happened... not really WLS best thing! There wasn't anything to this surgery, in fact it takes longer for prep than the actual surgery. I had worn glasses since age 9 years of age. Now just reading glasses. First thing I did was buy REAL sunglasses! You will be amazed at colors! My doc did one eye at a time, 2 weeks apart, some docs will do both eyes at same time. Depends on surgeon. Good luck to you, keep us posted! I had cataracts due to diabetes. I never thought I would be a canidate for this but when I went to the specialist he asked if I would like to get rid of those coke bottle glasses?! You bet I did. Good luck! Carolyn

I had mine done by Dr. Jacobs in May 2003. Next to WLS it's the best thing I've ever done for myself. I had a really bad astigmatism and all is well. The dr. actually said I can still have a revision done to perfect my far vision, but I would probably end up with reading glasses (I'm 44). I'm opting not to do that yet but probably will eventually. I also ride a motorcycle and not having to deal with contacts or glasses is great!!! They did both eyes at the same time, was back to work the following day working on the computer. E-mail me if you want more details. Janie

My son had his done in CR several years ago & is very happy. However, our eye dr says he will need glasses much earlier for reading than he normally would have. He is already finding it difficult to read small print & he is only 32 years old. He also said that since I am at the advanced age of 53 (his words- my dr is 9 months older than me!) and already wear biofocals, not to have it done as I would still need glasses for reading. Good luck. I wi**** was done whenI was younger. Dixie
