A little about me, a little goal, and hopefully a little laughter too...

Hi! I posted last week for the first time. My name is Melinda Schneider, I am from Council Bluffs, I was 3 weeks post op on Monday. I had a lap BPD done by Dr. Sudan. I have had problems drinking protein stuff - everything sweet puts me in the puke mode. So with the help of my nutritionist I am eating foods. Some good some not so good but all carry that lovely baggage of gross gas. I went to the doc today to get my return to work papers filled out. I decided to weigh while I was there. I do not have a scale at home and I do not intend to purchase one. So when Ms. Krystin weighed me and I was down a total of 22 pounds I was pleased. I also went to visit my friends in the operating room. I am a surg tech at work in the same OR where I had my surgery. I am not good at this compliment thing.... I was told by one nurse that she didn't realize I had such blue eyes. (where they pushed out of my head by the fat I wondered) I was told wow look you have a *****I know I have been sporting atleast 3 for many years) I was given a hug and told wow I can hug less of you (at that point I wanted to hug less of them as well) If you haven't you should read Passing for Thin - by Frances Kuffel. She nails all the feelings in her book. Goals... Drink more and try to do some sort of exercise. Start to journal to help the me that is blooming try to do it without going insane. Have a lovely day all..... Melinda

Melinda, So nice to meet you, again, I think. Isn't life wonderful when you notice all of these changes and get tons of compliments? Sometimes, it just all moves so fast. I love the idea of journaling. I did that a lot when I was first post-op. Now, I just share on here or call a friend or vent to hubby. Great job on the loss, by the way. Keep it up! God bless, Andrea

Melinda, Those first few weeks are really the hardest on you mentally and physically, aren't they??? You're trying to figure out what you can put in your mouth that won't make you regret it later and your mind is working overtime to tell you all the things you or anyone else is doing WRONG! I was so grumpy! Well, the best news is that it will get better and you will feel differently - hopefully better - as the weeks pass. You should be very proud for taking charge of your life and your weight and deciding to be healthy. And the 22 pounds is TERRIFIC!! Best wishes to you for continued recovery and feel free to post often to keep us updated. Thanks for the book tip - I will look for it. I also want to read Barbara Thompson's book. I think my support group has that one I can borrow. Take Care!! -Deb W.
