I'm stuck between a rock & a hard place. I'm about to start a new job soon, but I am planning on having the surgery sometime in the next couple of months, if everything goes OK. I hate to start a new job, and then turn around and ask for a leave of absence or even quit! I don't want to wait for the surgery any longer, as I've been waiting for almost a year. What should I do? Shelley, Hi and welcome to a wonderful site!! I'm glad that you are here. We are nearly neighbors because I live just north of Davenport. What center are you going through for surgery? I went through Genesis in Davenport, and there are others on this board that went through Trinity over in Illinois. If any of us can help, let us know. About your question, in my opinion, if you have the process already started and are looking at surgery within the next couple of months, I would just make your new employer aware of the necessity of an upcoming medical leave of absence. Also, check into FMLA (Family Medical Leave Act). It's federal protection for leave time. As long as you have doctor's orders/recommendations, you should be fine. (Please do some research on FMLA, though, so you don't just go on my word. I only know how it works for my employer and my husband's employer.) Once again, good luck and God bless, Andrea P.S. Are you coming to see Carnie Wilson this Sunday?
