Does anyone have any high in protein recipes that they would like to share? Or food ideas? I am not getting in enough protein and need a little help. I have not been able to eat any fish other that tuna from a can and that is getting old. I can not do chicken by its self. I tried the protein bars but they are getting to taste bad also. Does anyone else have these problems? Any suggestions would be a big help! Thanks Cheri 5/4/04 wls 230/185 and holding!

Hi Cheri, One thing that worked really well for me was the canned corned beef (not the hash) and mix it with a little sour cream and if you like, garlic and onion or powders. You can eat it chilled or nuke it for a few seconds to soften it up. Really moist and set well in my pouch. Send me your email address and I will send you a few recipes I have found online also. Have you checked the cooking and baking message board? (Under member interests, go the home, and then cooking and baking. There is a message board there.) Hope this helps a little, Elizabeth [email protected]

In the hospital they served pureed Dinty Moore beef stew with double milk instant potatoes. Nothing had ever tasted so good and went down so easily! Chili always worked well for me, too. If you can't tolerate the beef, you can use just beans, or add ground chicken. Jeri H.

This is the protein bar recipe that I got off our boards... It's tasty! and nuts are a great sourse of protein... that and cheese is how I get the majority of mine in. Mash together 1/2 stick melted butter, 1/2 peanut butter (crunchy is best), and 1/2 c. softened cream cheese. Add 1 3/4 c. vanilla protein powder, 1 T. vanilla, 2 T. Splenda, and 1/2 cup chopped peanuts. It will be crumbly. Press firmly (really!) into 8"x8" pan and freeze. Cut into 12 bars. There is over 30 grams of protein per bar. Even though they look small, I can hardly finish one. After slicing, put in little bags and keep frozen. Otherwise they crumble very easily. Handy for eating at my desk at work but can be a little messy. Paula

Try a 1/3 cup of powdered milk added to skim milk that would give you 14 grams of protein. If you add 1/3 cup of powdered milk to carb freedom yougurt that would give you 14 grams of protein. Try wafered ham or beef and take a slice of cheese and wrap the meat around the meat. You could try some soy nuts very high in protein. Dr G. office prefers if you need to snack and on nuts that it be soy nuts. I have tried the shelled sunflower seeds. Have you tried an egg add some milk and scramble it add some ham and cheese i also add some cottage cheese and whatever veggies you desire. I like pizza toppings. YOu get your meat and cheese from these. ? try spaghetti sauce with your lower fat hamburger and cottage cheese and sprinkled with mozzerella I do not eat any pasta or bread. You could try refried beans with cheese and taco meat and get reduced carb doritoes but only take like 4 or 5 doritos you want the protein not the carb. These are things I do and I had surgery March 4 2004 and I have lost 87 pounds in 4 months. I very seldom use protein drinks or bars only if i am really low. I average 50-60 Grams per day is my goal. If you eat 3 times a day and drink your milk with added powdered milk in between meals you should be able to meet your goal. Are you getting your 1 1/2 to 2 liters of water in? Any questions let me know! Kim

Cheri, Wow, you got some great responses. I'm going to try some of those ideas myself. You're not very far out from surgery. At that stage of the game, I was eating very little and drinking a lot of protein drinks. Cottage cheese and refried beans with cheese were favorites. Also, put dry milk powder or tasteless protein powder in anything that you can to increase protein. For example, I make sugar free pudding and add some dry milk powder and fat free or reduced fat cream cheese for a real protein kick. Sometimes, I even make some of the chocolate fudge sugar free pudding and then add some peanuts and put it in the freezer. My hubby said that it tasted like a hot fudge sunday. YUMMY!! Hope this helps, God bless, Andrea
