The dietician told me I wouldn't be able to have the surgery if I don't regulate the levels. I wondered if any one else had this problem and what was the solution?? Please advise. I am fluctuating 92-380 levels. I am new to all of this as I was just diagnoised in May.

First of all WELCOME to the message board! It's going to take a while to get those blood sugars regulated. Eating the right foods & exercise (hahahaha easier said than done) will help you regulate. And something else talk to your surgeon about having surgery with the sugars fluctuating so much. HE or SHE will be able to give you the right answer concerning surgery. I had a nurse saying that no doc in his right mind would do surgery on me with mine so high & they were close to 500 that day!! Of course they found out I had a small heart attack & that was the cause of such high sugars. Stress can also make them shoot out of control. They can regulate your sugars for you when you go for surgery. I was strictly on pills when I went in & ended up with insulin shots while in the hospital. I'm just a little over 2 months out from surgery now & I'm officially off my diabetic meds! DON'T take the word of the dietitian, talk to your surgeon they may have some insight for you. Good Luck to you! Carolyn 4/20/04 -42lbs
