Questions
Hello all,
I just have a few basic questions, since I don't go back to the doctor now until I am 3 months out, I figured you all will be my guides.
1. How long did it take for you to be able to sleep on your side and belly? I am not a back sleeper and I have a very hard time getting to sleep because I want to be on my side but still can't. It doesn't hury really but feels uncomfortable and weird like my insides fall over (does that sound wierd or what?)
2. Does milk, yogert smoothies, and protien drinks count as a meal or as liquids? I am having a harder time getting the liquids in but only eat "food" 2 times a day and only about 2 Tbs or so.
3. When do I know I can advance to the next level (now at pureed foods). I have doctor Glass**** (if you have him, you probably know what works best on his timeline).
4. How long did it take before you were able to "be with your husband" again.
Thank you all for your help, I love you guys!

Well I was probably 4-5 weeks post before I slept on my side and am now sleeping on my stomach and I am a little over 3months post op.
The protein drinks and milk count as protein and liquid. They want you to try to do as much of your protein from food and milk instead of supplements only supplement if necessary.
At 6 weeks you will go to the next phase just follow the packet that the nutritionist gave you.
As I have found out from my friend Kim we can have sex when we feel comfortable. I asked the same question.
Hope this helps.
Kimberly,
Thanks for the response. I actually knew that I couldn't start the next phase until I was out 6 weeks, but I just wanted to conferm. If I can make it 4 weeks total on liquids, this stage should be a breeze, right?
Are you on a liquid Iron? Does it sit like a rock on your tummy? It takes me about 1/2 hour to feel normal (is there such a thing at this point?) after taking my Iron.
Thank you again for the advice.

Hi Jackie,
Actually the office suggests that you call before going to phase 3 just to make sure everything is going ok at that time. So at 6 weeks, just call & talk to Jenny or Angela- oops, Angela will probably be on maternity leave by then.
About sleeping on your side- oh I remember that. I kept trying & finally found it comfortable enough to actually sleep. You may want to try putting a pillow under your tummy to support it & so your insides don't fall out. LOL Again, I know what you mean.
About liquids- good news! If it is liquid you can also count it as part of your fluids so you are doing better than you thought. Angela told me that if what you are eating is normally liquid at room temp, then you can count it as a fluid so that also includes jello & popsicles.
I'm tempted to make a joke about the last part of your question but since you don't know me, I better not. Oh, heck, I'll do it anyway.I'm 53 years old and 6 months post-op, do you think I should tell my husband it OK now?
Are you interested in getting together with some of Dr G's patients in a casual setting? There are several of us who get together almost once a month and we are having a picnic on June 27. Let me know if you are interested in attending & I can give you the particulars. That goes for anyone else also.

Dixie,
Thank you for your response, I like your humor! I would love to know more about getting together. There is so much I don't know and sort of feel alone in this journey. Please give me details. I hope it will work out, I have my llama farm on the 4H tour for that day but it is in the late afternoon. I would be so excited to meet some of you face to face.
