HI I will most likely be getting the job I interviewed for at Allied Insurance. They offer Conventry and John Deere HMO. Well I know that conventry stopped paying for wls, thanks to obesityhelp, but there is still hope with JD HMO. There is only one listing on the insurers info. Has anyone used this insurance to get gastric bypass? Or do you know of anyone that has? How are they to work with. They are reasonably priced, and will most likely be who i get stuck with. Thanks amanda

Amanda, Hi. Just wanted to let you know that I have John Deere. They were my secondary insurance and approved surgery before my primary carrier. I had surgery in December and according to the Genesis Center for Bariatric Surgery, John Deere quit coverage in January. Sorry that I am not the bearer of better news. Hope that you find out differently. Good luck and God bless, Andrea

Amanda, I have John Deere Select and had my surgery last October. I spoke with one of their reps back about April when we had an 'open house' thing here at EMC. She stated that 'as a company' they have decided NOT to cover this procedure anymore - HOWEVER, if 'the employer wants it' as part of their coverage it's up to them. So, in other words, it depends. If Allied has no exclusion in their policy from JD then it should be covered. I guess you'd really need to check with someone in the benefits department. I would think (Wouldn't you think also) that since Allied is a part of Nationwide now - if ANY of their branches offer insurance that would cover the surgery then wouldn't they have to offer the same coverages to all employees? I mean, they couldn't offer something only to one group of employees and not to others?? Right?? You know health insurance companies are so finicky - they bend whatever way the wind blows it seems. Anyway, best of luck to you. When you get the job just start looking into things. You may be pleasantly surprised?! Hopfully, Allied hasn't decided this procedure is too risky to get coverage. Take Care! -Deb W.

Hello Amanda ... I have John Deere Insurance and my surgery is schedule for July 14th. John Deere will no longer be covering WLS when our contract is up for renewal in November. Good Luck, I hope this works out for you. Mary Kathryn
