This is my first post, but I have to share my good news. After years of failed "diets", my family doctor has referred to me Dr. Coster's office for WLS!! My initial consultation isn't until Sept 10th. My biggest question is how long did it take for others from their consultation to their actual surgery date? Every year for work, we have our Team Meeting in Orlando, the week between Christmas and New Years. I've been wondering if I'll be cleared to fly down there by then. Any thoughts? Thank you!

Congradulations Lori! I to am going to be having the surgery as well, and hopefully sooner rather then later. I have to go through a evaluation, have a physical, and one more consultation with my surgeon, and then I should beable to set my date! I wish you the best. ~ Pam

I had an open RNY 5/11. You will be feeling pretty good at 4 wks altho your diet will be limited to pureed foods. But that's still pretty easy. Soups, cottage cheese, yogurt, pudding. Grilled fish, and chicken chewed very well.

Each doctor is different. In my case I saw the surgeon for the first time in April & had the surgery in December. However, I understand the surgeons in Grinnell get you through much faster. My surgeon is alone & extremely busy with a long waiting list. You'll probably be fine to travel by Christmas. Dixie

Hi Lori I have my first consultation with coster in August so I will keep you updated on when he thinks I might have it. I have talk to people that had surgery by him the following month after consultation they were having surgery I guess it all depends on the insurance approval. Good Luck. keep in touch ok. from Lavonda

I want to thank all of you for your well wishes!! I'm extremely excited, but at the same time scared. I do know that in the long run, I will be healthier and a LOT better off than if I carried this weight around for the rest of my life. Thank you again!! God Bless Lori

Hello! I had my first consultation with Dr. Coster on June 7 (the first appointment available when I scheduled it in February) and I'm waiting on insurance approval. See my profile for my notes on that visit. It's my impression that the scheduling of the surgery is really dependent upon how long it takes for them to get approval from your insurance company. It looks to me from poking around people's profiles on this web site that Dr. Coster often schedules the surgery from two to three months after approval is received. Good luck to you. I think that you are really going to like Dr. Coster. Regards, Martha

Hi Lori and welcome. I don't know about Dr. Costner because I went through the new Genesid Center for Bariatric Surgery in Davenport. In terms of time, I started all of my appointments in October and had surgery December 8th. Pretty quick if you ask me. Anyway, keep posting so we can get to know you better and let us know your progress. God bless, Andrea
