thanks beth
Sounds about right for 3 weeks. I'd say you're right on schedule. At three weeks your body is trying to stave off starvation so it isn't losing. Keep up your protein intake and your water. The protein should help keep you satisfied. I have that "hunger" also but can't eat much. I think it's head hunger. Hang in there. I'm 4 wks and this week is much better than last.
Elizabeth,
Glad that you have joined us. Hope that all went well with your surgery and that your recovery is going smoothly.
About the eating, I have to ask if you are truly hungry or are just experiencing what we call "head hunger". Or, is it just feelings of your stomach healing? I know that after surgery, I felt all kinds of weird feelings in my new pouch. Some were almost like a pain, but more attributed to healing and not hunger. I am 6 months out and my stomach still does not experience true hunger. (I know that this is different for others.) I also am concerned that after you eat, you feel so full that it hurts. Have you talked with your dietician about this? Our dietician recommended that we stop when we "begin" to feel full. The fear is that we will not heal right at first or that we will stretch our little tummies.
Yep, Lyn was right that after surgery, your body seems to shut down for a while because it thinks that it is being starved. Kick up your metabolism with a little walking and see if that helps. Most of all, remember that you are not that far out. Fluids and protein should still be your focus. I'm sure that you have a good start to your journey and you will do great.
I hope that this has helped some. I am by no means an expert, still learning every day myself. If you ever question what is going on with your new pouch, check with your surgeon's office or dietician.
Glad that you are here and God bless,
Andrea
Hi Elizabeth:
I have to ditto Andrea. Try to walk if you can, your body is
trying to hybernate (kind of like a bear in the winter.) Walking
will help to kick the matabolism into gear. I thought weeks 3-5
were wacky. I didn't lose much then either and then on week
6 I lost about 6 pounds. Crazy isn't it. I'm 4 months out and
still fight head hunger. I don't think it will ever go away. I've
spent 42 years programing myself to belive I'm hungry all the
time. I don't know if my brain can handle the change. Good
luck to you, everything gets much better by weeks 7-8.
God Bless,
Eileen
