OT-Getting Past

This is completely off topic, but I guess I just needed to talk to friends who would know where I am coming from. This weekend was my 26th b-day. Had all these plans with friends, and I was so excited. Tonight when we were all out, every single last one of them ditched me. Now, I am trying not to think or believe that it is because of my weight, but all of them are thin. I don't think I have ever felt so lonely and sad in my whole life. I know that our society looks down upon overweight individuals because it's not considered socially acceptable. However, I'm a person with real feelings, and emotions. Tonight for the first time I actually felt like I was less of a human being compared to them because of my weight. I'm sorry to complain, but I think I just needed to get this out. Thanks to all for listening. -Miranda

Hi Miranda, How well do you know those 'friends'?? They sound like jerks, and even if they are usually good people to hang out with, what they did was completely rude! You do NOT deserve to be treated like that regardless of their reasons for doing what they did. Being thin does not make someone more deserving of good treatment than anyone else. You are just as good, and probably more so, than they are regardless of what you weigh. I know you would not do to anyone what they did to you, so you are a better person than they are! It makes a lot of sense that it made you sad and hurt your feelings. I have felt the same way many times for similar things that have happened to me. But now I have friends that are good people who would never do anything like that to me and we need to find you some too! Everyone needs to feel accepted and loved by others. That is completely normal. Try not to let them get to you too much. In fact, I would say they are not worthy of your time. Perhaps the next time you hear from them and they want to go out, you should stick your at them and say no thanks I'm already busy. The next time you want to go out maybe you should give me a call. Feel free to email me anytime you are feeling lonely or just want to chat. Take care! Mandi

Oh, Miranda, I'm sorry that your friends did that. No one deserves to be treated like that. It does hurt - and so badly. Just know that we are here for ya, hon. We understand how it feels to be ostrasized by others for being overweight. You are not any less of a human being and certainly don't need to apologize!! Hang in there and know that we care! God bless, Andrea
