need ideas from anyone
I am 5 weeks out and I just can't keep much down, Dr. says to keep trying different things and I am but not much is working, can't keep chicken, fish, meats of any kind and now all liquids are giving me fits except milk, even water isn't staying down but 2% milk and cottage cheese does, go figure. Have tried cheeses, alot of meats, ground up, potatoes and I am running out of ideas. I have got like no energy at all, suppose to walk but I get half way up the street and I feel like I have walked 10 miles so have to come back home. Any ideas would be so greatly appreciated.~~~~~~Tina
How about things like Cream Of Wheat and sugar free pudding? If milk stays down, then these should too. If you have protein powder, add it in so you are getting some protein in the deal.the only thing I could drink for a while was S.F. Kool-aid. I had to water it down cause it was too sweet though. email me and I will send you some more ideas if these things don't help. It has taken me 8 months to get up to 3/4 to 1 mile so just keep trying. Some of us "old folks" take longer to regain stamina. (((HUGS))) Elizabeth
Tina,
Just want to throw in another couple of ideas - have you tried refried beans? I know that I was on a limited diet and was not even supposed to try meats until about 6 weeks and then they were to be ground or pureed (yuk, that just sounds gross). I would eat some refried beans heated up with low-fat cheddar cheese. When I was able to eat crackers, I would put some on a reduced fat ritz. I would also eat part of a mashed banana and peanut butter mixed. It was a nice alternative to toast.
I do need to ask how fast you are eating. Often, especially the first several months after surgery, if I ate a little too fast, I would feel like throwing up. I had to be careful to eat slowly, chew well and STOP WHEN FEELING FULL. That last one is in all caps because I still have to remind myself to do that - actually to do all three.
If you try different things and then are still having probs, be sure to check back in with your surgeon.
Hope this helps,
God bless,
Andrea
