how did you learn to eat
Hi
I am scared enough about having the procedure and dying. But what makes me almost not go through with presuing surgery is the fear of not knowing how to eat. Obviously eating right isnt my strong point LOL. Do dieticians really teach you what you need to know? Case in point how do you figure out protien grams? How did you all learn to eat?
I certainly am not an expert, Amanda, but the dietician can give advice and recommendations and help you to monitor food intake. However, different dieticians and programs recommend different diets. Overall, it is you that has to make the changes. Is it easy? No, not for me. I will struggle forever to make healthy choices. I know that there are certain foods that I lose control over, so they have to stay out of my house. Do you get used to the amounts you can eat? - yep. For me, it has become easier to measure by sight the amount of foods that I can eat and to "listen" to my body when it says I am full.
About figuring protein grams, calories, etc. there are websites such as fitday.com and computer programs that will help you figure nutritional counts. You can also just calculate yourself. You read labels and search for that information and then you just start to memorize it.
Don't get me wrong, I believe that this is the hardest I have ever worked at being healthy. I have to monitor my old eating habits and behaviors and see a psychologist for help. Monitoring my food and fluid intake as well as the exercise is time consuming. Is it all worth it? OH Yeah!!!
Hope this helped,
God bless,
Andrea
Still learning everyday!!! Like Andrea said....it is hard but very worth it....it is something I will have to work on for the rest of my life.....To find out protein grams, become a package reader......measure everything and if you have any questions your dietcian or surgery center should be able to answer you.....or some of us on here!!! Best of Luck Jesi
