6days post op now and feeling questionable
I guess I feel alright, I still have REAL pain around my G-tube. I guess that is understandable. Noticed that I have drainage around it too, a orangish/pinkish color, there isn't a lot but enough to be messy if i don't have gauze there. Eating has not been a problem, so much as finding things to eat. I have always been picky and after sugery I have noticed a change in taste of certain foods, especially sugar free foods. I normally could have tollerated them, but now, I just cannot tollerate the taste of it. Have been finding that cold liquids actually hurt to drink and I tollerate warm tea better. Counted my staples the other day and i think i counted 57, that is including the 2 that have already fallen out on their own.
I think the hardest thing I am finding is sleeping on my back, I am a side sleeper and it is hard for me to sleep on my back. I wonder often if it would do any harm to sleep on my side, if it is more comfortable. I will post again soon. Gonna go get something to eat now and get some water.
Any suggestions from your own experiences would be great. Thanks

I'm not sure about any harm, but with a couple of my surgeries I found I was more comfortable on my side with a pillow in front of me. I put the pillow about chest level and then down and kind of leaned against it and/or hugged it. It keeps everything from scootching around and helps to support you. PG woman sometimes do this same thing. Anyway it helped me to get more comfortable.

Hi Tonia! Glad you are feeling a bit better. I had problems with drinking cold fluids also. I still have that problem. I also am a side sleeper, and shortly after my surgery I laid half on my side and half on my back, with no problems. I just used a pillow under my shoulder and lower back area for support. It probably would be best to check with your surgeon on this, a simple phone call should give you an answer. I didn't have a drainage tube or any problems with drainage, so I can't give much help with that issue. Just take care and don't be afraid to call your surgeons office with any real concerns you might have. Better safe than sorry!!
Take care,
Cheryl
Tonia,
Sorry that I am replying so late after your post. Remember that at this point in the game, fluids and protein are usually the best. Did you have surgery at Trinity? What are their recommendations for diet? If you like warm drinks, by all means, have them warm and not cold. Cold was better for me. Remember that your little tummy is all new and has a lot of healing to do. It's tastes and preferences may likely change and it may not want much to begin with. Be careful of the G-tube. If it looks even remotely infected, call your doctor's office. Also, ask them about sleeping on your side.
Remember that we are always here for you!
God bless and glad that you are home,
Andrea
