How many carbs?

I have been curious as to the Atkins approach following surgery, as I know many post-ops avoid all carbs. I had surgery in Grinnell six weeks ago and was told to limit carbs, but not necessarily avoid them completely. I was told to focus on low fat and no sugar (meaning raw sugar, sweets). I know that carbs turn to sugar, but that's not the kind of sugar I mean when I say "no sugar".
I haven't really tallied my carb intake. I mainly concern myself with low fat and no "obvious" sugar. I do eat a few crackers, a bit of toast and a little pasta now and then, but certainly don't overdo it.
I would also be curious as to what others have to say about the carbs, especially in the first several months post-op.
Thanks.
when you do a low carb plan it starts with 19 or less grams(that's what Atkins says) .... Maintenance is higher; but not much. However in talking to people *****ally want to lose they limit to 12 grams.
I hope this helps Andrea, sorry I missed last month's meeting I was in Dallas for work.
Hope to see you at the next one.
God Bless and Take Care
