Change of plans
I am not going through the U of Ia. anymore. Was told my application was not enough for my insurance. Was told had to have 3 yrs of documented -supervised weight loss. I don't have it and don't think their is to many people that do. Any way I can't have documented weighs for the past 3 yrs cause I'm too fat for the scales. The woman says then you need to join weigh****chers or something. I said I weigh too much to be weighed so I wouldn't be able to join (450). She again stated the same thing and it was like she wasn't listening. Fianally she says you must have this in order for us to get intouch with your ins. I told her it does not state that in my policy. She says they changed in Jan. I said why wouldn't they let me know about a change and she says I don't know and goes into the same crap. Needless to say I hung up. I felt like she was giving me the run around. Talked to my pcp and they couldn't believe how all the stuff they sent and I sent wasn't good enough. They said there is other Drs. out there that do the wls and you don't have to go through all that. They are going to see about a Dr in Cedar Rapids. They are going to set up a appt. with Dr. Keating. They refur lots of people to him. Also my husband called our ins. co about what was needed and they said I need a letter from my Dr. stating all the comorbities I have and how I would benefit from this instead of having a short life span. Then it goes up to a medical review to decied. She even stated how to appeal if I needed to. Sorry for a long vent, I have been verystressed about this.
Cindy, I'm so sorry about how you were treated. It's like we don't have feelings - do they think our fat is so thick that we don't have them? God bless you and your pcp for sticking with it and going somewhere else! You will be on the losing side and we will all be with you! P.S. I bet the lady that wouldn't listen to you was skinny and never had a weight problem! Now I am venting! You take care hon and let us know how things turn out with the new Dr.! - Carol
Ohh, Cynthia, sorry that this has been so hard for you, dear. You hang in there. It sounds like you have a good family doctor that is working for your bests interests. In the meantime, you could start documenting your efforts now. If the scales are an issue, usually you can go to a hospital and they will have a scale that you can weigh on, or you could have your pcp mark on the chart that he was unable to get an accurate weight. Some places want 6 months of supervised diets and sometimes it takes a long time for the approval process, appointments and finally surgery date, soooooooooooo, document now just in case.
Hang in there and God bless,
Andrea
