Just wanted to say 'howdy' -- used to live in Pleasant Hill ... managed the mobile home court there in town. That was a LONG time ago - remember when the library was by the Fire Station? Remember when the tornado ripped through town? Remember when the dynamite blew up? That's when I lived there! Around the mid-80's. Smith's Super Shute had just opened and boy was that FUN!! My baby (then about 12months to 4 y/o when we moved) LOVED to waterslide and from about 18 months old went down by herself with one of us waiting at the bottom for her to SHOOT out! She LOVED it! It's amazing the growth that that little burb has experienced.

Allee, I remember the tornado. It was in May, 1983. It literally took the roof off my house. We lived on Kimberly Lane, the street with the big oak tree in the middle of the street. I was inside my house when the roof came into the living room. I just bought the house 6 days before the tornado hit. Eight weeks later had a new house and all new furniture. Also, I think they are closing Smith's Super Shute. I live just outside Pleasant Hill now. The town is really growing. Bob

Where either of you there when they had the big explosion at the old Amory dump south of town? Knocked me off a chair 10 miles away! Smith's Super Shute became White Water University- they're closed this year over some fight with the city. Actually, I grew up just a mile from Berwick- north of Plesant Hill, but graduated from Southeast Polk- back in the dark ages! Small world, huh? Jeri H.

Hi Jeri, I moved to Pleasant Hill in 1971. Lived there until 1999 when I bought another house in Brook Run Village just North of Pleasant Hill. I still spend alot of time in Pleasant Hill as my parents live in Copper Creek. If you would like to get together some time just let me know. I have a friend in Copper Creek that has had WLS. Her surgery was a couple years ago. My doctor is Dr. Vermillion and he was all for me doing this with all my co-mobidities. My cell number is 250-7720. Call if you would like to share war stories. My wife also works with people that have had WLS. Bob

I think we're talking about the same thing ... the armory explosion ... and when I said the dynamite blew up. That was SO SCARY. I was laying down with my little daughter it was a Saturday afternoon and all of a sudden the whole HOUSE jolted. I was SO afraid our water heater had blown up and I grabbed her and ran out of the house and then saw that HUGE mushroom cloud. My husband had come running by that time (he was in the garage) and we just couldn't IMAGINE what had happened. Like everyone else we drove that way to see ... had a plane crashed or WHAT? That was so sad that those boys lost their lives like that. Literally vaporized into oblivion. Speaking of plane crashes - do you remember when the plane went down on the highway south of town there between those big tanks? I swear sometimes I thought we lived in the Bermuda triangle when we lived there. Like I said - I managed that mobile home park and it was the ONLY time in it's history that it flooded. They were literally using row boats down some of the streets. Plane crash, dynamite explosion, tornado, OH AND THE GUY THAT GOT FRIED ON THE POWER LINE when he was stealing copper wire off the power lines? We could see him hanging there from our front yard ... THE BERMUDA TRIANGLE of IOWA to be sure! *LOL* We live in Muscatine now ... much calmer!
