well I finally recieved another packet of imfo from the U of Ia. and it isn't looking good for me. Some of the questions I have no idea what to write. For an example, how much did you weigh as a senior in h.s. I'm 45 yrs. old and I don't remember. Also I have had 3 pregnancys, how am I to know how much I gained with each one? The first two I had when my ex was in the military and I tried to get my records when I got a regular dr and was told they do not belong to me but to the military. ok fine, I know I gained 75 lbs. with the next one cause I wentinto the hospital for bedrest and they had to take me down to the laundry to weigh me cause I weighed more than 350 lbs. They also want to know what I have weighed the past 5 yrs. I don't know cause I haven't been able to weigh at dr. cause I have been over their 350 lb scale for a long time. Another thing is about the diets you have been on. I have been on many since childhood. My mother took it as a personal challenge to try to get me to lose weight. Didn't work. I have been on weigh****chers 3x, Tops 6x and richard simmonns 2 x's . I did these on my own. No dr involvement. The only way I could tell if I lost weight would be by how my clothes fit. No scale went high enough to weigh on. I now have a scale that I know how much I weigh. It goes up to 500 lbs. I now weigh 445 lbs. Oh my God! Also in the imfo it stated if your BMI was 40-50 you had to have a phsy test. Mine is 66.7. Any Ideas ? I could sure use some. I'm felling very doomed. I don't know who the dr is yet.

Tell them just what you've said here. Many of us were in the same boat. If they don't want to deal with you, there are many other doctors and centers that would be more than happy to have your business! DON'T GIVE UP!!!

Just make an estimate about how much you weighed & when you were on diets. Try to remember as many as possible. They don't want exact amounts. No one can remember all that. They just need to see the trends, like were you slender until the last few years? It would probably mean something different if you were, instead of having the problem all your life. Do the best you can. They will accept that, I'm sure. Dixie

I too went through the university of Iowa....It really is a great program...The question packets can be challenging.....Just make your best guess.....They want to see that you have had weight problems for a long time.....Also stress that you couldn't be weighed do to Dr. office scales not supporting your weight! All the paper work and questions seem crazy but just make close guesses and you will be fine.....You don't need to get old medical records or anything!!! Best of Luck.... Jesi

Cynthia, I did not go through the U of Ia, but I remember paperwork that I had to fill out for the center and it was outrageous! I also had to do a two-three year diet history for insurance. I had to list the type of diet, how long on the diet, how much weight loss, why I went off of the diet and how much weight I gained. It was not fun! Heck, how do you remember all of those when they were not doctor monitored? Just estimate. Again, like already said, I think they are looking for overall trends. Do your best and hang in there! God bless, Andrea
