what to take
I took a robe, blistex (something for the lips is a must in my opinion because she will be very dry!), a nightgown or some sort of my own pajamas, pads because often women start there periods after surgery (mine was 5 minutes before - ewwwwwwwww - and, I talked the doc into letting me use tampons two days after surgery, ) toiletries (shampoo/conditionaer, comb/brush, toothbrush/toothpaste, deoderant, soap, etc.) a change of clothes for on the way home.
Hopefully this helps. Prayers going out for a successful surgery and speedy recovery for her!
God bless,
Andrea
Tina,
Definately have her bring chapstick or you stop & get some for her. They will give her some spray to moisten her mouth until she has her leak test the next morning. It is kind of icky but it really helps & the chap stick will help the lips more.
I found that I couldn't read at all due to the drugs. I just couldn't make sense of anything. I also left my nighty at home & used the hospital gowns. It is much easiler to work with the wires & such. Do bring a robe. however, she can ask for a second gown to wear backwards if necessary. She will be doing lots of walking.
How nice for you to be able to see what she goes through before you have the surgery yourself.
I'm still planning to visit patients on Thursday. I'll stop in to see her if you haven't taken her home before I get there.
Good luck.
