I've read a few posts on this message board and the Q&A board saying that BCBS changed their policy as of 4/1/04 saying they will no longer cover Morbid Obesity Surgery. I have BCBS Blue Access. I just called my provider and the lovely lady on the other end researched it for me and told me that the policy has not changed. In other words, in my case, it will be covered if I qualify. You might want to call your provider and make sure what you've heard or have been told is true before giving up hope. Cheers! Kelly B.

Good advice Kelly. There are a lot of different BCBS plans and employers have a say as to what is covered. It is always good to check this this out. Janine 5/16/03 BTC - Illinois 273/159/???

Hi Kelly! I think that it may have been my reply to a post that you read about the exclusion as of 04/01/04. That is because that is when my husband became eligible for insurance through his employer (Tyson Retail Deli, Inc.) with Wellmark BC/BS and they, as the employer's choice, have an iron-clad exclusionary policy for WLS. Please take care though, because there are many states following BC/BS's examples in FL, NE and other states...it will not be long before BC/BS and numerous other insurance companies will be refusing to provide coverage for this life-saving procedure. Whether pre-op or post-op, we all need to contact our congressmen, senators and governors to try to stop this outrage from continuing. Especially, with the nation's eye being on our governor as possibly the running mate of Democratic hopeful Kerry and maybe the next Vice President of the U.S. Wouldn't hurt to have an ally like that on our side, would it?
