Newbie
Hi My name is Cyndi. I am a nurse here in Davenport Iowa. I have my first appointment for surgery 4/1. I have been lurking for a bit, but really wanted to say I appreciate how open everyone is here. Very comfortable place to be. I am now at my highest 356 and hope to have surgery in May. I have all the fears everyone else seems to. I want to live a better, healthier life so I know this is right. Just wanted to say 'Hi".
Hi, and Welcome Cyndi. This is a wonderful place. I had my open RNY on March 1st, and I dont think I could have done it without this website. I live on the otherside of the state in Sioux City, but if you ever need someone to chat with feel free to email me. Good luck with your journey and welcome again. Anne
Hi Cyndi - I live just about 12 miles from you in Long Grove. Had surgery in December with Dr. Christophersen through the Genesis Center for Bariatric Surgery. Are you going through Genesis or Trinity? If it is Genesis, have you been to any of the support groups? I go every time. Also, if you are going through the Genesis program, which doctor are you seeing?
During your wait, keep reading and researching everything you can about wls. Also, keep posting with questions and comments and keep us up to date on your progress towards beginning your new journey. Welcome to a very friendly and supportive board - we're glad you're here!!
God bless,
Andrea
Hi Cindy:
I'm also from your neck of the woods. I live in Davenport
also. I just had my open RNY 2/3/04 at Trinity. Good luck
with your appointment. An entry above mine suggested the
support groups, I have heard they are great. There is one
on our side of the river and one at Trinity. They meet on
different days and both groups welcome anyone who wants
to attend. I'm going to go to one at Trinity on Monday
night. If you have any questions or want to get together
I'd be happy to share my experience with you. Keep reading
everything that you can and don't hesitate to ask questions.
Good Luck and Welcome,
Eileen
Thanks for the great Welcome. I am a nurse at Genesis, so my surgery will be there. I will see Dr Christofferson. I am planning on going to the April meeting here at Genesis. I am so greatful for all your support. I have been reading everything I can get my hands on. Have a good friend 2 years out and she has been great. Even get her old clothes. LOL Thanks again.

Hey Cyndi
This surgery is not without risks; and you need to think long and hard about making the necessary changes in your life to make it successful. (read my profile) That said it's a tool that has given me a second chance at life.
Great to have you here. If you want a veteran's point of view; am I available.
I have lost close to 180 lbs from over 300 to 127... (size 26 to a 6 (or even a 4)) Yes it can be done.
