Let's Talk Hair!!!

OK Ladies, Let's talk about thinning hair. I have been planning ahead since the beginning and thought I had taken every precaution....Using Nioxin, the wal-mart hair vitamins, my regular vitamins, monitoring my protein intake daily on Fitday.com. Well...now my hair is visibly thinning. So someone please tell me it will come back. I know my doctor says it will, but I have a litttle doubt in my mind that it will just keep coming out and I will go bald. I'm 6 months out and have lost 112lbs, I didn't think it would bother me to have my hair start thinning, but it is. Deb Paul

I don't have any advice for you.....I too, didn't think the thinning hair would bother me.....I have VERY thick hair....but every time I shower and see the fistfuls of hair strands I cringe and worry! It is normal and it WILL stop, but it is different for everyone......I hope it gets better for you soon.....Good Luck Jesi

Deb, I'm not sure if this of any help, but at my support group meeting last week we were talking about the hair loss, everyone that is about a year out said their hair started thinning and falling out at about 6 months, and Nioxil came up, but that taking Zinc was what was recommended to them by their fam doc, and they said it made a big difference. Hope that helps. I too am not looking forward to the thinning hair, I already have thin hair on top and thick in the back. Think a come forward will work

Deb: IT WILL COME BACK!! Seems to happen between the 4-6 month area. My came back in a little finer thatn before, but it's back. A good volumizing shampoo and rinse will help alot! Keep taking vitamins! Jeri H.

Deb, Do a search on the main boards. Someone just posted this topic last week and there was an article posted from a doctor with a lot of info. (Question ID #4386 gastric bypass related hair loss asked on 9/16/02 - is what the top of the article says.) Sorry to say, but most of it was that it is just going to happen. I have very long curly hair and have to bru**** out in the shower with conditioner in it. Needless to say, I have been noticing more and more hair in the brush and worrying because it is not thick. I do take zinc because someone mentioned that at the support group. Hope this helps. God bless, Andrea

yes it does start to thin....... and guess what!!!! mine just started coming back!!!! wooohhoooooooooooooooooooo! the lady at the hair place even said she could see a lot of new growth. Mine was so dang thin to begin with though, it hurt to lose any! but, I made it thru, and now it is coming back. I think it started about 5 or 6 months out, and about 3 months later it started to come back. hope that helps. I havent used any of that other stuff though, I just tried to up my protein and everything. for what it was worth anyhow. basically my hair was kind of like I got a really harsh perm and ya know how you burn off a lot of it then. but like I said, its growing back. hope this helps. sorry there isnt much any of us can do, it was one of the things they tell ya before the surgery, and you know as well as I do Deb,. it was still worth it to have the surgery!!! Hi Deb. My name is Diane Sawyers. I'm from Winterset and I just had my lap bypass last Tuesday, 3/9. I don't know anything about your hair loss so I'm sorry I can't help you there. I am so impressed at your loss of 112 pounds in 6 months. I'm wondering if you would mind if I ask what you started at weight wise. I'm about 108 pounds overweight and I don't think I'll lose at your rate but you look so good in your picture, I can't imagine it. I just have felt like such a fatty all my life. Thanks everyone for your responses!!! I will try the zinc and a little patience My starting weight was 348. I'm 5'6" and I weigh 236 now. My husband is almost to the century club and we'll post a new pic when he gets to that goal. I feel like I married a new man...everyone should have the opportunity to trade in their man for a newer model He just had lazer eye surgery too...he's always had glasses so he looks very different to me. WOW! Deb did Jason know what a fox he married? You look beautiful! Does he look half as good? I haven't started losing my hair yet. It's still a bit early. I'm just hoping it holds off until after our son's wedding in less than 3 weeks. I'm anxious to see you & Jason. Please let me know when you come to visit Evey.
