I have a date of May 3rd,2004 ...I still have to wait for insurance approval. I was denied last time but they (other dr. office) didnt really send much info when they sent it in for approval. I have sence changed Drs. and I now go to the University of Iowa and have been on a supervised diet for the past 6 months. Im really scared to get happy about it because im afraid i will be denied AGAIN . Its like im holding back my feelings when I just wannna tell everyone but then I dont want to have to tell them later That I didnt get approved. Has anyone else been thru the same thing and have some advice to give . Im really confused about my emotions...XOXO Stacy

stacy I remember how upset you were when you didnt get approved last time. but if you are working with a good surgeons office there is no reason you shouldnt get approved this time, exp if you have been on one of those diets. how did that go by the way? thanks again for helping me out with that book as well, I hope you got it back? Just think happy thoughts about the surgery and approval. I know you are probably more worried about just getting approved then anything. the surgery you can get through, its just getting it paid for! lol Take a deep breath, take each day at a time, and very soon I know you will get the answer you are hoping for. Keep us all updated ok! Judi

Hi Stacy. I tried to have the surgery last year and even though my doctor, Dr. Myrie from Des Moines felt I should be approved, I was not. In the meantime, I was very depressed. However, this January, our health insurance changed to Mailhandlers Insurance and I decided to try again. This time, my family physician's assistant got involved and fully documented all of my history of failure with diets. I had lost over 100 pounds three times in my adult life and I could not keep it off. Eve Harris-Kunkle, PA-C, from Winterset, Iowa wrote a very good letter helping me document everything. This was the decision maker for the insurance company. I had my surgery March 9, 2004 at IMMC in Des Moines. I am only ten days out but I have already lost 13 pounds. Only 87 more to go. Keep your chin up, Stacy, even if you think you're defeated, you have to keep trying if you really want to make a change in your life. Diane Winterset, Iowa
