New Member
Hi, my name is John and I am a new member. I am ashamed to say it but I let myself get up to 440 lbs. I would diet, lose some, then gain it back plus more. I went into counseling a year ago to work on my psy. issues surrounding weight then I got my doctor to send me to Dr. Sundberg in Boone. It took me about 3 months to get insurance approval and then another month or more to do all of the things the doctor requried. So at the very start I went on Adkins and in those 4 months I lost 34 lbs. When I had my surgery I was at 406. Now, 5 1/2 months later, I am at 306. So I have lost 134 lbs total. I had my surgery by the "lap" method but had a leak so they had to do an open incision. I was on the table 5 1/2 hours. A few days after surgery my incision broke open and I got an infection in it. After almost 6 months it is only about half grown together and I still have to pack it everyday. But it is getting better. The two things that frustrate me now is that I still get sick and "froth" some of the time and some weeks I get "hung up" at one weight and don't loose anything for a week or so, then it starts going again. I hope to be at 300 by the time in go in for my 6 month check up on the 30th. I would be glad to hear from anyone who has had trouble with "frothing" and with getting stuck at one weight for a week or more. God bless all of you in starting your new thin life.
Hi John,
nice to meet you and welcome to the board! It really sounds like you have had a rough go of things.
I just want you to know that I wish you well in your journey, and if you want something(like being down to 300) you can do it if you truly want to! the surgery has given you the tool to be able to accomplish this type of thing! so good luck and keep us updated on here!

Welcome John! You are doing great on your journey. My sister had a c-section in Jan. and developed cellulitis and had to have her incision opened. Just keep doing what the Dr.s tell ya and it will eventually heal. You might want to check the "library" feature (upper right corner of page) and put in "frothing" and open incisions to see what others have said about these problems. All of us get stuck at a weight for a while. Usually it is one of two things. You body is trying to catch up with its new self. or sometimes you need to change your routines just a little to shake things up. Add an extra serving of water, change your exercise a little, add a FEW good calories (protein) things like that, then go back to the original routine. Just don't let your body get too used to the same things. (For females, we get stuck at a certain weight sometimes when it is at or getting close to that time of the month - Obviously NOT John's problem here! LOL) We are fairly close to each other as I am in Nevada. There are quite a few of us in this area. (I have a cousin and her family that live in Hubbard I think) But we are all close with this Iowa board. Please don't be afraid to post anything. We are not too shy and are really here to help each other.
Best wishes, Elizabeth
Hi John, sorry to hear you had such a rough start with this. I hope that each day becomes easier for you. As far as the frothing I have this happen in the morning when I am trying to take my meds with water. I found if I take them with something else I do better. I am fairly new post op yet, 7 weeks so I have not hit a hard weight stall (as far as I know, I'm not weighing myself only maybe once every other week), but my husband and people say they can see my face is getting thinner and I have a neck now LOL. Good luck with things, and be proud of what you have lost so far and just go it one day at a time.
Welcome, welcome, welcome John! So glad that you have come to join us. You will find some great support on here. Sorry to hear that the incision is still not healed. About the plateaus, been there, done that and hate it. By what I have read, making changes like Elizabeth suggests should work. I had to step up the exercise to get off mine. Now, I only weigh every several weeks or so.
About the frothing - I have only been sick several times without having to make myself get sick. All of those times, I had swallowed a huge calcium pill and my little tummy did not like it. Gotta find some new calcium now.
Well, welcome again. Be sure to post any questions and we will try to help.
God bless,
Andrea
