OKAY, here it goes, I had my 3 month check-up with the dietician yesterday (see the surgeon today) and she looked over my food diary. I got chewed out because I am snacking in the evenings too much. I eat soy nuts and popsicles in the evenings. The soy nuts are to help with constipation. However, I was told that they add too many calories and that I should not be snacking at all except on sugar free popsicles or protein drinks. AHHHHHHHHHHHHHH I am a past smoker and am wanting to smoke again. Do I just need a shrink???? I need help in how to deal with these feelings of wanting to snack and smoke!! Thanks in advance and God bless, Andrea P.S. Have you seen The Passion of The CHRIST yet?

Andrea, If you cut the calories somewhere else in you day, would that work with your dietician? What I have found in my own experience, and through the other groups that I belong to, you have to do what is right for you. If eating the soy nuts helps with the craving for a smoke, wouldn't you be better off with the soy nuts? So....I say, follow your dietician's guidelines, and remember they are only a guide, but you have to do what is right for your body! Kris

Hi Andrea, I eat an orange or yougart at night. I do love nuts too. In fact that is what I am eating right now. I say go with what helps you to not smoke. You heal faster if you don't smoke. I have been snacking more and I don't like it. I need to drink more. My husband also said with me doing weights that I am building muscle, which takes energy ( making me have more of an appetite) Which is scaring me. I don't want to gain back the weight. I reached my 100 pound goal weight at 8 months. Now I have to mantain it. I need to go to some support group meetings. I hope Jesi mentioned something about maybe going with you two to the next meeting. I did go see The Passion of Christ by myself(my husband and I are not doing well) So I thought this movie would help me. It is a very moving movie. Makes you really think what is important in life. I know Christ went threw alot of beatings, but I felt it was alittle much for the movie. I am just not a violent kind of person . It is hard for me to watch those kind of movies after I had kids. I hope you understood that lol It has been a loooooong day. Take care, RoseAnn

Thanks all for the responses. Jesi - as always, love to talk to you! I'm gonna try those pickles. Laurie, thanks for being a cheerleader for me. Kris, thanks so much for the response. I am going to give the no snacking a try and then remember that I have to do what works for me. Roseanne, yep, Jesi e-mailed me and I e-mailed you. Probably while you were responding to this post. About the movie, my eyes are still puffy from crying. Wow, what a sacrifice Jesus made for us!!! I cannot put into words the affect that it had on me. Thanks for all of your replies, God bless, Andrea

Hey Andrea, I just saw the Passion last night, I really liked it. We should have more movies like this...it gets people talking about what's important. I read through the Gospels before I went and it made the movie better, I knew what was coming next. I grew up Catholic, and I could tell a Catholic wrote the screenplay. I did think it was anti-sematic. I sure was happy I wasn't Jewish after leaving the film. I cried a lot too....it was a beautiful movie. I snack some days. My therapist told me this surgery is about learning to live a healthy lifestyle, making smart choices and changing your habits. I think soy nuts are a lot better than Ruffles and dip. Listen to your body and feed it something healthy when it's hungry. The last thing you want to feel is guilt and shame over what you're eating...that's what got us so big to begin with. We want to break the cycle of food tied to emotions. Our life shouldn;t be about "dieting" anymore it should be about making smart choices for our bodies. If you don't eat now, you'll keep craving it and it will consume you. Food does not have power over us anymore! We now have control over what goes in our bodies and it's OK to have a bite of something we crave and not feel guilty. Good luck, and I eat pickles all the time, and soy nuts. Deb Paul
