Lap Band

Thanks to the ladies *****sponded the last time. I am interested in the lap band surgery and would love to here sucees and failure stories. Also would like help finding a doctor in Iowa who does the surgery and hopefully someone closer to home to assist with aftercare. I have BCBS of IL. through my husband's employer. Any ideas of what it costs to have this surgery with no insurance? Like if you are denied and wanted to pay privately? I am a 31 yr old mom of 8 1/2 yr old boy, childcare provider, and foster parent (currently of 3 girls 7,9,15 yrs old). I have always been overweight. Our whole family is obese. As is my husband's. I weighed 160lbs at 5'4" when I graduted from high school in May of '90 and when I married in Aug of '91 I was 250lbs. Wow! I am now around 280. I avoid scales like the plague. My dad had VBG last october and has had good success but I do not want an open surgery and doctor nearby in Cedar Falls only does the bypass.

Karen, You may be in luck. It looks like Dr G is going to start Lap Bands this summer according to his profile. He's a really good surgeon, just extremely busy. Dixie
