Hello All: My company (EMC Insurance in Des Moines) had a financial fair today to kick off Financial Wellness Month. I saw from the flyer that my health insurer "John Deere Health" would have a rep at this. I took my picture from 6 months ago with me and told the lady I wanted to show her something. She was hesitant - like I was going to hand her my last blood test or something, but I handed her my pic and said, "This was me six months ago. I had gastric bypass surgery and you folks (John Deere) paid for it. I just wanted to say that I'm doing really well and I think you should keep paying for it because it's really changed my life!" She said to me that John Deere "as a company" decided to stop paying for the surgery as of January 1 of this year but it is up to the employer. If the employer says that it's covered then they will pay for it. So I guess I just wanted everyone to know who has John Deere that they may have to work with their Human Resources department in order to get WLS paid for. I nearly cried in front of the lady, but I'm really proud of myself for not chickening out and making my views known. I'm sure she thinks I'm a nut, but I don't care. This issue is too important for them to just drop it. How many people died from having angioplasty when it was really taking off as a treatment for cardiovascular disease before they had things more perfected???????? Had to vent and get this info out there. Sorry for the long post - Deb W.

Good for you, Deb. I snuck in "under the gun" with John Deere and had surgery 12/8/03. Thank the Lord that I had it covered. Keep up the good fight!! God bless, Andrea
