One month anniversary today.
One month ago today had RNY. This has been a week of what in the world did I do to myself. I am not getting along as well as I had hoped to be, it's either eat or drink as if I try to drink during the day I get full and eating makes me sick. I have to force myself to eat anything but yogurt. I did finally get some protein mix today to try shakes for breakfast. I have lost 36 lbs so far but feel just crummy, I get tired real easy and irritable. I know just take it one day at a time but man what I wouldn't give for some chocolate or a piece of toast. Have a great weekend, it's supposed to be in the 50s yeah, although we know more snow is on the way but the sunshine lifts my spirits a little bit as I love the outdoors so hope this will help my mood.

I was where you are exactly 4 weeks ago!!! I remember it well, although not fondly!!! All I can tell you is that it does get better. For me, it started getting better in the middle of week three- but it wasn't until week 6 that the "what have I done to myself" thought began fading! I felt (and sometimes still do feel) the same as you about eating. Yogurt has been my best friend the past 2 months!
It does get better! My doc told me that so long as I am getting in my protein and my water, as well as my vitamins- I was OK. He said over the next couple of months- the rest will all fall into place. And I think he may be right- just the last week or so, I am having an easier time eating and still able to get my fluid in. If it helps- here is how I try to do it: In the a.m. I get my whole protein drink in, plus try to get at least 24 oz of water in. That way I am 1/2 way there for water. Then I have lunch- generally yogurt, as that goes thru easily. I try to get another 8 oz in during the afternoon. I have dinner early (try by 6pm or so) and then wait until about 8pm or so and "slam" the rest of the water in over the next 1-2 hours. For me, water is easier to drink if it is really cold. I also try to do some Chrystal Light at night as a "treat" to myself!
Good Luck- it will get better! Hopefully soon. Just make sure you are getting your protein in, that makes a huge difference! And remember- your body and spirit have undergone significant trauma, so take it easy on yourself!

Leslea,
It's a hard road that first 2 or 3 months. And unfortunately, you're the only one who can travel it - someone else can't do it for you. I have to agree with all that Michelle said. As long as you're getting in your protein and vitamins, and working on the water intake, you're body is most likely just fine. As my surgeon said, you're living off the 'fat' of the land.
This doesn't make it any easier mentally, though. And isn't it funny how the mind works on the rest of the body. If you're home, you might try working on a project of some sort that takes a lot of concentration - like a puzzle or knitting? - Keep your hands and mind busy doing things. That can help pass the time between now and the day when you feel better about things.
It's the trials and tribulations period of your journey. I wish I could wave my magic wand and make it later this year - make this time pass quickly for you.
Anyway, we're here to listen when you need to vent. Take Care!! - Deb W.
