Hi wonderful people!!!! Got another question for all of you, I have to be on a diet before surgery, if I do good or bad, does that affect my chances of surgery approval?

I also had to be on a pre-op diet......and if we didn't show we were serious and follow it, and lose some weight.....we were cancelled......I had 6 weeks and I lost 12 pounds and that was good enough for my surgeon.....everyone is different...good luck Jesi

Dawn, I guess it would depend a little on who is asking for the diet: the surgeon or the insurance company? Although either way, I guess I would ask them what exactly their expectations are for you. What do THEY want to accomplish by this? If you don't ask.......... I would think the surgeon and his office would be able to give a pretty exact answer, but the insurance company may be a little vague or at least as vague as you will let them be. If it were me, I would ask for written specifics from them on diet, time frame, expected outcome, and what would happen if things didn't go as stated - that way everything would be spelled out clearly. I hope this has been helpful. Best of luck to you on your journey!! - Deb W.

Dawn, I take it you are having surgery with Dr. Glas**** in Cedar Falls??! I am on my 2 weeks of clear liquids. It is not real easy but if I can't do this how will I do after surgery? I know the reason Dr. Glas**** has you do this is to shrink your liver so it will slide out of the way so they can do your surgery better with the scope. I know of several people who have had it done and they all say he is a wonderful Dr. but you need to do what he says or he won't do surgery on you. He wants to protect you and himself also. If you want you can e-mail me back. Have you gotten a surgery date yet? mine is march 11th. They do have a support meeting at Sartori this Monday night at 6:30...you can talk to people who have been through it. They are a lot of help. Hang in there! Keep in touch Cheri
