Home and Healing!
Hi all! Rachelle D. here. Well, I had surgery on Feb. 11 and went well with a couple of extras thrown in by the surgeon. He spotted my appendix, and it was enflamed and ready to burst, so he removed it. He also found an Ovarian Cyst and removed it. All that along with the bypass and the gall bladder removed, well, I feel a little hollow! LOL.
I think I am progressing okay. Eating and drinking and taking all the protein is still a challenge. I get so full! Did anybody else notice tha****er tasted funny after surgery? It now tastes bitter to me and I really struggle to drink as much as I should.
The hospital and staff were so wonderful. They really helped and were so understanding, and they pushed when I needed it.
Well, I am getting tired. I am going to go for a little walk and then take a short rest. Rachelle
Rachelle,
I am glad to hear you are home and doing well. I would feel a little hollow too if they took all that out of me
Eating will be a challange. When I was a new post-op I found I disliked eating because it was soo much work. Plus it seemed that all I did was eat (6 small meals a day). I didn't notice a change in how water tasted. My friends use to call me a "water ****" before I had surgery because I was always drinking it (my one good habit). Now 9 months post-op that is still all I drink. I have yet to have coffee or pop. I like sticking with water.
Anyway hang in there and make sure you get your water and protein. If you don't like the water try sugar-free Crystal Light lemonade. That might help.

Welcome to the other side!
I also hated the taste of water at first. I used to drink tons of it but found I had to force myself to drink it. Here are a few tricks I found worked for me. I bought a snowcone maker & made slushes with juice (watered down.) That seemed to trick my pouch into accepting it. I also added lemon juice to water to help mask the funny taste. Drinking it warm with the juice helped. I was able to drink more when it was warm. It seemed to go down better. I also hated sweet things, and still do, so drinking SF koolaid ot Crystal lite was not an option.
Another thing that I am doing now. When taking my pills & vitamins, I take only one at a time & drink several ounces to get it down. Then I take the next pill & repeat. I get lots of water down that way.
