Jodi, Welcome home and welcome to the losing side!!! My restrictions after open surgery was no lifting for six weeks. That was hard because I have a now 19 month old son. Anyway, don't overdo it! Be sure to follow surgeon's orders and take it easy. Get lots of fluids and lots of rest. Congrats and feel better soon, Andrea

Welcome Jodi to the losing side!! I agree with Andrea, I was told 6 weeks before I could lift more than 5 lbs. You don't want to herniate your incision area. Remember a gallon jug of milk or water weighs about 8 lbs. I could do that ok, but didn't try to do anything heavier. Elizabeth

Jodi, Really nice to hear you're home and doing better! NO LIFTING! Hey, I had lap but that deal got me out of doing laundry for SEVERAL weeks - LOL! Just tell everyone you're under orders not to lift anything over the weight limit. (I've always been good at giving people orders - I don't know why I'm not farther up the corporate ladder so I could do that to my heart's content!) Anyway, follow your doc's instructions cause hernias HURT! Best wishes to you for a super speedy recovery and welcome to the losing side. - Deb W.

when you get life back???? HA HA HA it started the moment you went in for surgery but reality it really will take about 4 to 6 weeks and DON"T RU**** I am 10 months out and I still have my moments of weakness. As one of my docs told me....I just changed my life in such a short time it will take time for even the biggest muscle to catch up with me. So we have to be very kind to our bodies. most of all CONGRATS on your new life! trust me, it will be hard from time to time....allow the moods to come and go but also remember the family when they hit.. my husband and can tell the difference between food moods and pms...How sad is that!! but he loves the new me and says it is worth it. lorrie ames area

Hi, Jodi! Congrats on the feeling better. I'm waiting to have my surgery on March 1st and just got my orders from the doctor to not lift more than 10 lbs. the first couple of weeks, after that I'm fine. I'm have the lap done so don't know if this helps. Take care, Gail
