This probably isn't all that serious but it has been going on for about 2 weeks now and it has gotten to the point where I feel I need to ask others about it. SO.....every time I stand up from a sitting position I start to see dots and nothing else for about 10-15 seconds. I can feel my body sway and usually always have to stop and grab onto to something. I have had this happen to me before years ago but not this often. It is literally happening almost everytime I stand up from a sitting position. Anyone able to explain to me what might be going on and/or what I should do about it? Thanks!

Hi Stephanie - it might be vertigo - my grandma gets it from time to time - I've had it happen to me - usually it just has to run it's course but I would see a doctor just to make sure. Don't ever take your health for granted! Let us know how things go! - Carol

This happened to me and my surgeon sent me to a neurologist... I would advise you to go talk to a doctor about it just to be safe. The neuro told me that while I was sitting, the blood was pooling in my lower body and then when I would get up, my blood pressure would fall and I would see spots or things would get dark. Upping your sodium intake and water intake will decrease these blackouts. Another thing that he recommended was not sitting for such long periods of time and when I stand up to immediately cross my legs and bend down towards my toes, squeezing my knees together. This gets the blood moving throughout the body again. You might be having these things happen for a different reason, so please verify with your own doctor what you should do, but hopefully it is nothing bad and you are able to follow a simple regimen like I did. I still have these instances happen if I haven't eaten or drank anything for a few hours so I really have to watch it. Good luck and let me know if you have any other questions. Julie

Sounds like Orthostatic Hypotension, most likely from being dehydrated. 1st call your MD while sipping on a glass of water. 2nd move slowly from laying, to sitting to standing, Denise
