Hi everybody!!! I had lapro. Roun-Y surgery last wednesday... so... 8 days ago. With Dr. VerSteeg in Fort Dodge. What are the diets that everybody else was on for the first few weeks? just curious! And... i got weighed today hoping to have lost five or six pounds... but... 20.2!!!! I can't even see how that's possible. But then again--- i am used to eating all the time and now am eating only my five protein shakes a day. Does anybody have any good ideas how i can stop the psychological cravings??? They're gonna kill me!!! This has only been a problem the past day or so. I've done pretty well at distracting myself by walking or brushing my teeth--- BUT... any ideas would be really great. I miss chewing...and actual food. Anyways... then again--- 20 pounds off is greater than eating! lol

It will get better when you can eat something solid. Personally, I'm rarely hungry anymore. I have to remind myself to eat! Your loss of 20+ lbs is great. I can only imagine what you felt. Dixie

It will get better especially when you can eat again ...and you will push the envelope and when you feel crappy...trust me the cravings go away! Congrats on your loss...I love that feeling when you think....oh I have probably lost a pound or 2 and it is 5 or 10!!!!! You are doing great! My husband is from Swea City! My sister in-law works at a salon/spa in Algona, maybe we could meet sometime Heather RNY Dr. Hardy 5-23-03 293/180/?1??

My surgeon had me eating regular food 2 days after surgery so I didn't have it that bad with the cravings. Fluids move through your system faster than solids, so you are going to be hungier right now than once you can eat regular foods. You should always take the advice of your doctor or dietician, but I know that eating solids helped me as long as I chewed very thoroughly. I ate applesauce, mashed potatoes, ham, chicken, green beans, malt-o-meal, canned pears, yogurts, cottage cheese, etc those first 2-3 weeks. Also, make sure you drink your water. Sometimes water loading helps keeps your pouch full and takes the cravings away. Good luck and congratulations on your weight loss!!! Julie

Deanna, Hi, I had open RNY almost 8 weeks ago and it is still hard. I was just talking with a coworker this morning and noting that I don't know if I would ever recommend this surgery to anyone yet because it is soooooooo much work. I still have the cravings to eat. Haven't tried anything with refined sugars yet and won't, but will push the envelope with things like crackers and peanut butter. I found that I do better when there is someone around to hold me accountable. For example, dh works Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 5:00 p.m. to 3:30 a.m., so it will be just me and the kids. It gets hard and I notice that I snack. If dh were home, I would not do that. All that said, let me tell you that I certainly don't mean to scare you. Obviously, I have some psychological issues to deal with as well, or I would not have gotten to be this size. Things did get better when I was able to actually chew food. And it is usually when I am tired or stressed that I want to eat. Sugarless gum usually does the trick for me and takes away the cravings. Hang in there, you will do fine. God bless, Andrea 326/284.5 (-41.5)/under 200
