Heart/Chest Soreness
I have had this feeling in my chest for some time now and it worries me. I am afraid I am going to have a heart attack. I was on anxiety medicine but have run out and thought I could manage my anxiety on my own. I worry that my weight will cause me to have a heart attack soon. I don't feel any numbness in my left arm or side of my body, but the area around my heart just feels sore and hurts at times. Does anyone else ever feel this sort of symptom? I have had EKG's done and they have been normal. Just curious to see if anyone else has ever had an anxiety attack. I had one and thought I was going to die. It was horrible. I now try to just breathe and clear my mind. It's hard to do though when I am driving on the interstate and think I am going to pass out and then invision me wrecking and dieing and not being there for my husband and kids. I know as soon as I lose about 20 lbs. this feeling will probably go away.
Dear Sharon: My husband used to have anxiety attacks. He would feel pressure in his chest, and felt as though he was having a heart attack. I've read that that is a very common feeling in panic attacks. However, if it persists or worsens, you should seek a medical opinion.
If it is continous, you may need to rule out gallbladder or ulcer ect. Best of luck, with your WLS!! You should discuss your meds with your Dr. It may be that you need to continue the anxiety meds for awhile, until after you're recuperated from surgery, and have lost some weight. Best of luck to you, keep us posted!! DeeAnn R.
Hi Sharon,
I had a mild heart attack on Dec. 29th. I thought I had heartburn, which I've never had before in my life. I had chest pressure, like bronchitis, kind of a burning feeling like heartburn then slight pain which moved from my chest around to the upper back, it reminded me of when I was having a gallbladder attack. Not everyone has the same heart attack symptoms I found out. The week before I had severe shoulder pain, thought it was from my bra! And I blame alot of pain on fibromyalgia as well. The EKG's may come back ok but what I was told was I needed to have blood tests done, they check the enzymes around 6 hours apart. I was admitted & had a cath done the following day. I refused the treadmill as I feel you are pushed into a heart attack (my own personal opinion) & the cardio doc was ok with that as the cath will tell more. I was lucky, mild attack with no damage & one small blockage. I would be ok one day then would have the "heartburn" which would come & go. To be on the safe side I would contact your doc & get some tests done. My surgery is on hold but hoping to see the cardio doc soon & get released. Better to put the surgery on the back burner for a few weeks if need be than to have heart attack while having the surgery. Good Luck to you Carolyn
