Hi I have lost 50 pounds since surgery, December 22, 2003. I am hurting still, my surtures, where they cut me open, are bright red and it burns. I haven't been able to get my 6 meals in a day like they told me to do. and the 64 ounces of water in a day. I am also getting the hiccups right after I eat or drink anything, they are getting to be a bothersome, especially at church and in public places. I had my surgery with Dr. Eibes in Grinnell, and he said in two weeks I could start eating solid foods again. That's going to start this Tuesday. I almost can't wait. Only because I'm getting tired of eating mashed potatoes, cottage cheese, jello. Did anybody have the hiccups after the surgery? If so, what did do you to get rid of them? I would appreciate any feed back. Thank you. Your Friend Lisa Young

It sounds like you need to have your suture line looked at. Bright red and burning does not sound normal. What were your post op instructions for signs of infection?

Wow, Lisa, your weight loss is phenomenal (sp?) I thought that I was doing good losing over 36 pounds in 5 weeks, but 50 in 3 weeks - - WOW!!! Are you eating what you are supposed to be? Have you seen a dietician? The first time I saw mine, I got chewed out for not enough protein, liquids or calories. I see her again on Friday and am sure that I will hear some of the same. Just keep trying to get in what you are supposed to be. Have only had hiccups sometimes, but burp a lot. About the sutures, I would call the doc and have someone look at them. You don't want to take chances. Also, I have read that protein helps to heal. Good luck and God bless, Andrea
