Had 3 week post op and having pain

Karen,
For the first 3 weeks I had the most terrible pain in the rib area, just where you describe it. I had the open roux-en-y. I was told that it is muscle pain, as when they do the surgery, they use sme type of thing to spread the muscles apart, allowing for a smaller incision, and that many have this pain. Kind of like a pulled muscle. I still have it, but not as severly, it is getting better. But... on the safe side, better call your doc and ask, as we are all different in our healing ways.
Hi Karen,
I had surgery just a week before you, on the 8th. I also felt some pain on the side of my incision and the doctor told me that it is the muscles healing. I know that my doctor said that he sutured two layers on the inside and it was probably one of those layers. Holding his fingers and thumb about two inches apart and running them up the side of my incision, he showed me where the muscles run on either side of the incision. I still have pain on both sides at the top of the incision - sure that muscles are still healing.
But, call the doc to be sure.
Congrats on the loss. As of Friday, I have lost 36 pounds in 32 days.
God bless,
Andrea
