vitamins-FYI
I found this on a web site and thought it would be good for all of us. there is so much discussion on the OOSG message boards about calcium and that tums just don't cut it. many women are writing in that they now have osteoporosis because they arn't getting the right calcium. anyhoo
here is the regime that the website recommended.
FIRST 4 MONTH BASELINE PLAN
After 4 months, lab tests are required to review that the below regimen is working for your system. It may at that time need to be adjusted to better suit your body, then plan on another set of labs every 4 months thereafter to continue to monitor your protein/vitamin levels.
GASTRIC BYPASS
Childrens Chewable = 9 (three 3x per day)
Centrum Pill (if you choose not to do chewables) = 6 (two 3x per day)
Calcium Citrate (with D and Mag.) = 3000mg daily (500mg per pill = 2, 3x per day)
B12 = One 500 mcg pill per week (sublingual)
Liquid Protein = 150 grams per day, 120 grams minimum (30g, 4-5x daily) I think this is referring to the shakes--more protein--less hair loss
Polysaccharide Iron 150mg = 3 (one 3x per day).
Vitamin A/D (water soluble) = 6 (two 3x per day).
Minimum 64 ounces of water.
or they have a new liquid vitamin that you just add to water and you only have to take it once per day. I asked for a sample and it is coming, so we will see. I think you would want to take the B12 every day.
What I think is you should talk to your PCP about your vitamin needs and how little you are absorbing now. I look forward to absorbing less 1/19/04, but also don't want to get sick or have fragile bones.
The people who have been doing this along time are taking up to 30 pills per day for supplementation.
YOu know we prolly need this, considering most diets recommend good multivitamins and suppements.
Thanks for the info and the sites, Beverly. I will be sure to check them out because I am just 4 weeks post op and on some vitamins, but I'm sure I am not getting everything that I need. I have really long hair and do NOT want to lose it. My dietician recommends just 50-60 grams of protein, so I will be researching this.
God bless,
Andrea
