Hi I am almost 2 weeks out. I went to Grinnell, they are one of the top 10 surgeons in the state of Iowa. The surgeon there told me, that one of the reasons why the deaths were in Des Moines were because of the way they do them. Des Moines does the Laparoscopic and Grinnell does the open, but surgeon told me it's because when they do the laparascopic, the surgeon can't see very well. The Surgeon doesn't believe in Laparascopic. But here's the name and number in case you are interested Dr. Eibes, Dr. Coster, or Dr. Schwartz (from the Surgical Associates) telephone - 641-236-4323 Dr. Eibes was the surgeon I went to. People say he is the most caring surgeon there is. Hope this helps Lisa Young

Tammy: I just had my surgery last week with Dr. Cahalan of the Mercy Capitol weight reduction group. There are three surgeons. I have been soooooo impressed with this group. The first step is to call them and then go to an information seminar. I have also heard great things about the group in Grinnell and Boone- but I liked this group and liked that they are in Des Moines, which will make follow up visits easier! Good luck to you! Mihcelle

I also went to Grinnell, which is really not that far from DM I am told. I highly recommend them, they did wonderful work, and were very professional and caring. In 7 1/2 months I am down 125 lbs, so I am very pleased, Now I just need to lose about another 50 or 60 :D Judi

Tammy- I would highly recommend the Grinnell group, too. From my home in east Des Moines, it is a 45-60 minute drive- WELL worth the travel time! I still go once a month for the support group- they are a terriffic bunch. I have not regretted one moment in having my surgery there, and, when the time comes, will most likely return for my tummy tuck! Jeri H. RNY- Coster 7/11/03 -95 lbs.

Tammy: these deaths were at Methodist. You will be very pleased with either Dr. Cahalan or Dr. Beck at Mercy Capitol. I have not had the surgery, but I know the credential crap. they are good people. their phone is 643-0556. let me know. shine

Tammy, I live in Nevada and went with Dr. Myrie at Methodist for my surgery. I was scheduled for surgery on 10/3/03 with Dr. AC ( The one you asked about I believe) but the day before my surgery (10/2) they cancelled on me with the reason being that "Dr AC will no longer be doing wls for personal reasons" Thank God for Dr Myrie, his partner, who was able to get me kn one week later on 10/10/03. Personal opinion, (PLEASE no hate mail from AC's patients here!!!) I like Dr Myrie better. He was patient enough to answer any questions I had and even talked to my family a couple of day safter my surgery as he was waiting for his ride to pick him up. One night that I was in the hospital, he was on call for ER trauma. He promised he would be up to see me before he went home. Well, when it got to be about 8 PM I thought yeah right, he is home and eating dinner by now! Boy was I wrong! He drug his tired butt into my room about midnight just to check on me. He was in scrubs and you could see how tired he was. He even sat down while talking to me! I think that impressed me more than almost anything. Just wanted to put my 2 cents worth in (and yes I did have to take out a loan for it!!) You can e-mail me anytime with questions or comments. Elizabeth
